Our son arrived for a visit from Brisbane on Tuesday night - he has brought with him documents relating to my husband's GG Grandfather's involvement with the Masonic Order - along with photocopies of 2 other documents one which has Province of Ontario at the top with what is obviously a seal - this document relates to approval for GG Grandfather to act as a Commissioner for taking affidavits in and for the Courts in Ontario etc etc and goes on to mention proceeding sto be had in the High Court of Justice for Ontario or any other Court of Law or Equity of Record in the said Province etc etc Dated 17 January 1882 and in the 45th year of her Majesty's Reign. This was granted by the Honourable John Beverley Robinson, Lieutenant-Governor of the Province of Ontario. On the reverse of the document it has Commission appoiinting David Galbraith (GG Grandfather) a Commissioner for taking affidavits in and for the Courts in Ontario, under the provisions of Revised Statue of Ontario, cap 63. Recorded this 18 day of January A.D. 1882 in Lib.11 (could be 1 as the y in January comes down to this line on the document copy Folio 12. Signed by what appears to be John N Ussher Deputy Registrar of the Province of Ontario. So now that I have verified that there is only one Ontario I would like to find out how to find out what this document actually means - was David Galbraith in Ontario and for how long etc etc. So if one of our Canadian 'family' could help untangle this little piece of unexpected information I would be most greatful.
