Hi Murray - thanks for all that. I had never heard about Roddy McCorley but I will now seek out that story. I will be seeing Vincent in February when he comes up to Hamilton (from Wellington) and will show him your e-mail and leave it to him to respond to you. I believe his mother was a Rose McERLEAN and I know he has done some personal research in the Duneane area. Vincent has a definite look of one of my brothers and my father so I guess it is possible we have a closer tie but so far we cannot connect them. One family story is that my grandmother Maggie walked into Belfast for work in the linen industry with two sisters. So far I have not found out the names of her sisters. I would dearly like to be in touch with my first cousins in Belfast and in America but have lost touch since our mutual parents have passed on. Regards. Have you heard the ballad "Roddy McCorley"? He was from Antrim and "was hung on the bridge at Toome" in 1800 after the 1798 rebellion. Roddy is supposed to be a relation and I've just been doing some research on him. His mother was a McErlean, probably from Duneane, a Presbyterian (I assume Catherine McErlane was Catholic btw). Ardnaglass is right beside Kilcurry and so there is a good chance of a link. Have a look at this page of my website - http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/mlynn/01_Lynn/FT_Lynn_02.html - for what I know of the McErlane / McErleans and my family history in the area. I haven't come across Vincent Garty, what are his connections? Thanks Macha Have a look at the bottom of this page for Roddy: http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/mlynn/01_Lynn/FT_Lynn_02.html It will be interesting to see if Vincent has any information - I look forward to hearing from him. My family and associated ones from the same area in Antrim (Lynn, Walls, Graffin, Dimond) lived in Gisborne and Napier and I have the feeling there were others there too. I am amazed at how looks carry through a family. I am trying to contact a Lynn family in Bellaghy (not far from Kilcurry) who look exactly like various family members! We just met an American family who - if they are related - would be connected to my wife's at the latest in the 1650s. Her very unusual ear shape is identical to the family here in NZ and apparently is common in both branches!
