Deb, All I know about my McIlroy is the name! Robert Stevenson (m. Elizabeth Connaghty), born 1798 was the son of John Stevenson and Mary Rankin. John apparently kept a haberdashery shop in Ballymena, and it was still there at least until 1970's. All of Robert and Elizabeth's children came to Canada in early to mid 1800's. Hugh, born 1848, had a son whom he called Thomas McIlroy Stevenson. No neighbours or family with that name, but I assume it was a connection he or his parents had back in Ahoghill/Gracehill/Ballymena. Hi Deb Sorry for the delay replying. I am having problems with my PC at present. The earliest McIlroy I have is William, born around 1799. William married Ellen Telford around 1819 in Cullybackey (near Ballymena) Although Emerald Ancestors have Ellen married to a John McIlroy. Family of William and Ellen were:- John, Thomas, Eliza, Samuel, Mary. Joseph, Margaret Ellen and Robert. Robert is my line and he Married Ellen Matthews and had the following:- Thomas, Robert, Ellen, Samuel, William, Elizabeth and James. Again Robert is my line and he Married Anne Irvine and had the following:- William, Harry, John, Robert and Thomas and again Robert is my line. The last Robert above (my grandfather) left Cullybackey in the early part of the last centuary and moved to Scotland.
