    3. Sorry, I meant to put - not long - in the RIC before he married. Thomas only joined in 1853. So he was only in the RIC before he married in 1856. Don’t know how he managed to marry her as he certainly wasn’t in the RIC before he was married. Maybe he ‘had’ to marry her as her age is listed as 15 on one of the children’s birth entries. Don’t think her parents would have been too happy about her marrying at such a young age!! Maybe that’s why they emigrated so hurriedly after he resigned? Thomas & Charlotte were married 5th June 1856. Thomas resigned from the RIC 9/4/1857. The first child was born aboard the Sir William Eyre on the way to Australia 21/5/1857. So what’s that? A time frame of approx 6 weeks from resignation to sailing to the other side of the world? I do in fact have a record for Thomas’ RIC service.. A man by the name of Jim Herlihy did it for me. It states when he joined, who recommended him, where he was transferred to, and why he was discharged. Thomas’ reason was emigration. He must have left Ireland soon after he resigned as there isn’t much time from resignation to his first child’s birth aboard the Sir William Eyre in 1857 enroute to Australia. <http://nalil.blogspot.com/> <http://nalil.blogspot.com/> Jane <http://nalil.blogspot.com/> <http://nalil.blogspot.com/> Liewah Station <http://nalil.blogspot.com/> Moulamein <http://nalil.blogspot.com/> nsw 2733 <http://nalil.blogspot.com/> <http://nalil.blogspot.com/> From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Saturday, 12 April 2008 7:04 PM To: [email protected] Subject: RIC <http://nalil.blogspot.com/> <http://nalil.blogspot.com/> Thomas McEvoy was my gg - grandfather's name.
