    1. [IRL-ANTRIM] Greer: Bracknamuckley Townland
    2. Hi everyone, I am trying to connect the dots with my Greer family that lived in Bracknamuckley Townland, Portglenone Parish, County Antrim that I can document from the 1860's till at least 1815 when my gr gr grandfather, Hugh Greer passed away. There were also other Greers in the area that I suspect are related. Many of them married and had christenings at the Portglenone First Presbyterian Church. I wrote to the church and recieved some information that I hadn't had before but was not able to find out about where they might have been buried. Would anyone know where a Presbyterian would most likely have been buried in the 1800's and early 1900's? My gr gr grandfather was married twice. First to Nancy Burns in 1863 and then to Elizabeth Stuart (sometimes spelled Stewart) in 1867 after Nancy passed away (possibly in childbirth). Nancy and Hugh had Mary in 1864 and William on 1 May 1866. I only know of Mary from her christening record. William's birth was registered in Ballymena. Elizabeth and Hugh had James on 1 May 1868, Robert Aickin on 13 Apr 1870 (who was first named John on his birth registration in Apr 1870 and then had name changed on 12 Aug 1870 to Robert Aickin), and John 23 Apr 1872. I know that James and Robert Aickin came to America in 1888 & 1889. I do not know what became of Mary, William and John Greer yet. There were also other Greers living in Bracknamuckley at the time of Griffith's Valuation. William Greer, Samuel Greer and Hugh Greer lived on adjacent properties which I believe had a corn mill. There was also a Jane Greer in Bracknamuckley as well as a Robert McGreer and a John McGreer in Bracknamuckley A James Greer and a Jane Greer are named as witnesses at Hugh's weddings. William and Hugh Greer both had fathers named John Greer, farmer on their wedding certificates so I believe they are brothers, (as did the Pastor at Portglenone First Presbyterian Church). Robert Aickin (my gr grandfather) settled in Madison, NJ and had 5 children: Hugh Parks, William Stewart, James Dudley, Dorothy Elizabeth and Robert Aickin, Jr. I saw many Greers listed in Townlands around Bracknamuckley. The Townlands I remember are Drumraw, Slievenagh, Gortfad, Killycoogan, Ballnafie, Garvaghy, Carmagrim and Craigs. There were many Greers in other townlands and also different parishes and counties but I named the above as they seemed close to Bracknamuckley. I noted multiple John, James, William, Samuel, Alexander, and Hugh Greers. I wondered if they could have had more than one property or if there were this many Greers with the same given names. I am trying to figure out how they are connected (if they are connected). If anyone is also researching the Greer family I would love to compare notes if you are willing. If anyone knows of the family and thinks they can shed any light I welcome your input and/or your suggestions. And if anyone knows where any of these Greers are buried I would greatly appreciate your help in locating them. Thanks for reading this rather long message. I wanted to provide as much information as I could. Happy hunting, all... Debbie Greer Hennessey in NJ
