Hi, Antrim-listers-- My great-great grandmother Anne McKenty Black (b. 1826) had a sister Jane (born about 1843) who was married to a McERLEAN. I don't know about any descendants Jane may have had, but Anne and Jane had a younger sister named Margaret (so if you think?it's possible your Margaret McErlean is related to Jane, she could have been named after Jane's sister Margaret.) The McKentys had a farm in Mullaghconnolly townland?(in the Glenarm area near Feystown) at that time. Let me know if you think there could be a connection.? Regarding the HUNTER surname, in 1999 I stayed in a very nice bed and breakfast in Ballymena called Shanleigh House. It was run by a Mrs. Hunter whose HUNTER relations were from the Glenarm-Carnlough area. Just thought this might possibly be helpful to someone in finding a connection. My grandmother was Margaret (Maggie) McERLEAN who married Owen McCOMB in Belfast in 1909. Maggie was born in 1878 in Ardnaglass, Co. Antrim (according to her birth certificate). They had children: Margaret, Joseph (my father), Sean, Stephen and Theresa. I know I have first cousins in N. Ireland and the U.S.A. and I would love to be in contact with them. Any connection do you think. Kindest regards. Hi Barbara- You wrote: "Carnlough is where most of my Hunter/Mulvenna/McVicker family lived. " Do you have McErleans in your family too? My great grandmother's sister married a Hunter; her father's will was witnessed by Matthew Mulvenna with Felix Mulvenna of Dunteige, Farmer, and Charles Mulvenna of Deerpark East, his Executors. Antrim married to Owen McCOMB in Belfast in 1909. I have a copy of a letter from Felix McKillop stating that my Great great grandmother Elizabeth McErlean McQuillan had brothers John (born 1852), Arthur & James (born 1854 -- both emigrated to Australia), but no information given about their children. Given the small size of the population, the relatively low incidence of the McErlean name, and the extent of intermarriage in the Glens of Antrim, it seems likely we are some degree of cousins -- so Hi Cuz! from sunny but chilly Maryland.
