I can tell you what my sister and I did the first time we went to Ballymena. We looked in the Griffith's valuation, found out where any Stevenson's and Mortons were in Kildowney, Dungall and Carnlea. We got a really good map, compared it to the Griffith's maps at the library and then found a house that was still on the property in Kildowney and went there and knocked on the door. The woman who lived said her mother in law was a Stevenson and called her daughter - and it went on and on meeting new cousins. We have knocked on a lot of doors and written a lot of letters. The best way to find out about the past there is to find someone who is willing to talk about it, even if they aren't related to you. We found out quite a bit by talking to the man who lives next to the empty house where Peter Morton lived in Dungall. They old people know all about everyone :) and most people there are related to each other in one way or another. If you could give me an idea of who and where you are looking, I might have some other ideas for you. But for sure - go to the Mid Antrim Museum (used to be the Ballymena Museum but they moved to a new building) They have cemetery transcriptions for most of the cemeteries. The Ballymena Library has some stuff including the maps for the Griffiths and the census films. PRONI in Belfast is loaded with good things. I can tell you how to find some of the cemeteries if you want to walk through them.
