Nevin, Sorry, I wish I could. James was born 1798 and emigrated in 1827, so they say. I do wonder if it was 1824. The first thing I was told was that he was from Londonderry, but his death record says Co. Antrim, with no further details. His mother was Ann, don't know father's name, wife was Margaret Jane Groves, had daughters Mary Ann and Margaret and son John in Irelland. No, my James ended up in Canada. However, I did see on the ships' lists, one going to Pennsylvania. Unless he went there first. Yes but they are getting much later in time, I need 1690-1730 period of time, this would allow me (I hope) to work backwards one generation and forward one generation and make some csome connections. There were only five Crooks families in Antrim in 1660, it was not a common name back then. Someone sent me Eull's address in Glagorm, please send it to me again as I apparently lost it in this monster called a computer!! Gordon
Gordon, as far as I know the information in the Registry of Deeds was gathered on an continuous basis. I don't know about a 1734 Agricultural Census but one exists for much of the northern quarter of Co Antrim for 1803. There is a 1766 census of Ahoghill Parish. Nevin
My CD gives the county, parish, townland and year for those who had to pay these tithes. There are lots of James and Jas Johnstons. Is there any way you can narrow down your search? Nevin
Niven: I have always been struck by the fact that record taking in Ireland appeared few and far between as far as I know you had The Registry of Deeds in 1707, Agricultural Census 1734, and the Rolls of Protestant Householders 1740. I know a lot got burned up in the four courts fires in Dublin, but even so that's not much. Here in the USA as far as I know the Crown (while we were a colony) was never surveyed, the Royal Governors and Proprietors did some recording for tax purposes, but once we became independent from 1790 every 10 years we have had a census and they are a font of info. Which reminds me to ask is there a list of names and where living in the Agricultural Census of 1734? I am seeking any information of SHANKS, could be in Belfast, Carnmoney or in Antrim Co. Know Mathew Shanks and 4 yr old son left from Belfast in 1767 to Charlestown, S. Carolina. Seeking who his parents could have been. He married a ?Wilson about 1760 and she died either before or on the voyage to the USA. John, Alexander, James, Mathew were common family names both there and in the area near Glasgow, Scotland. Mary- I corresponded with you back in 2000 about our Moody relatives. My ggrandfatherJames Moody married MaryAnn Lynch in the Ballymoney Presbyterian Church in 1883, and their first 3 children (John, Margaret Jane, and William) were born there before they emigrated to Beaver Falls, PA in 1889. I found their birth records on the LDS films. There are pictures of the church on my website at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~mmhesse/Ballymoney.html I've discovered more information and pictures recently about prior generations. It is at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~mmhesse/Genealogy.html#MOODY.. There is a Moody Surname Y-DNA project (See http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~rwmoody/dna/moody_dna_project.htm ) which I have persuaded my male cousin to take part in, so we should soon know more about our Moody background in Ireland. Also you might like to check out http://www.ballymoneyancestry.com Good luck searching Marilyn Hesse ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mary Moody" <moodster41@hotmail.com> To: <IRL-ANTRIM@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, November 20, 2006 10:51 AM Subject: [IRL-ANTRIM] Roll Call -- MOODY and SCOTT >I plan to research the names Moody and Scott in and around Ballymoney. > > Mary Moody > > _________________________________________________________________ > Get the latest Windows Live Messenger 8.1 Beta version. Hi Daniel, You don't happen to have anything, at all, an an Andrew REED and Jean MURRAY REED, from. Co. Antrim, do you? Andrew I have as being born in 1693, and Jean in 1698, and marrying ABT 1724, in Antrim. I have at least one rumor of them leaving a son, Paul REED, behind, and Paul later married a Sarah McCullough. At some point, rumor is, Paul passed at a young age, and Andrew (Sarah's father-in-law) "sent for" her from Townsend, Maine (then part of the Massachusetts Bay Colonies), and she and her children came to the United States. Any information at all would be gratefully accepted. -David -----Original Message----- From: irl-antrim-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:irl-antrim-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of DANIEL MURRAY Sent: Monday, November 20, 2006 12:45 PM To: irl-antrim@rootsweb.com Subject: [IRL-ANTRIM] ROLL CALL-SCOTTS OF COUNTY ANTRIM I am researching the following Scott family and descendants/ancestors Family Group Sheet ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- Husband: JOHN SCOTT #83 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- Born: CA. 1845 in Died: APR 09 1904 in COUNTY ANTRIM, IRELAND Buried: 1904 in MAXWELL WALLS CEMETERY, COUNTY ANTRIM, IRELAND Father: DANIEL SCOTT #1663 Mother: MARY JAMIESON #1664 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- Wife: MARY WILSON #84 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- Born: CA. 1848 in Died: JUL 18 1921 in KELLS, CO.
