    3. Just a comment on the surname Ellis. Searching in Perthshire, Scotland I found the name spelled as Alice, particularly in the 1840's. Regards, Virginia

    1. Re: [IRL-ANTRIM] Andrew REED (b. 1693 d. 1762)
    2. David Reed
    3. Hi Nevin, Yes, it is. J I've conversed with Robert Wylie in the past (a decent god-fearing man, from what I could tell). J I'm looking to dig deep into the history of the REED family and its history, and his family, the Wylie side, married into the REED family very early on. J The current thinking is that Sarah REED was born aboard ship, but that it was on one of a number of voyages, not the original voyage. There are signed documents prior to 1743 in Boothbay that Andrew (or maybe it was his son Joseph, I don't recall for certain right now) signed for the fort in nearby Pemaquid (Maine). -David Reed David (Me!) / Dermont Arlington / Clifton Dermont / Dermont Arlington / David Alive / Washington / David A. / Joseph / Andrew REED From: TaggartN@aol.com [mailto:TaggartN@aol.com] Sent: Thursday, November 30, 2006 7:32 AM To: DaveReed@midmaine.com Subject: Re: [IRL-ANTRIM] Andrew REED (b. 1693 d. 1762) Dave, I take it this is the family tree: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET <http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=coyote1&id=I165> &db=coyote1&id=I165 Nevin

    1. [IRL-ANTRIM] Andrew REED (b. 1693 d. 1762)
    2. David Reed
    3. Good Morning, I came across the following notations in the history of Andrew REED, written by a previous REED researcher from the 1800's (Elizabeth Freeman REED)...I was wondering if anyone could offer anything, at all, regarding the following. I know NOTHING of consequence, other than what THIS says...if ANYONE can offer ANY information about ANY of this, I'd be glad to have it! :) I can provide an image (scan) of this document to anyone who requests it, if you want me to email it to you. -David Reed David (Me!) / Dermont Arlington / Clifton Dermont / Dermont Arlington / David Alive / Washington / David A. / Joseph / Andrew REED ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------- "Andrew REED b. Ireland (Antrim, 1690), His wife, Jean Murray, aunt of the Rev. John Murray, was born in Antrim, 1690 - He was of English descent, she of Scotch-Irish. He is mentioned as a Dunbar settler of Townsend (later became Boothbay, Maine, USA) but he probably came to America in 1743 (now believed to be 1730?) and built a log cabin at Mill Cove, Boothbay Harbor. He was driven out by Indians in 1745 and returned in 1749. He died in 1762." "The title of Colonel has often been applied to him - Parker McCobb REED in his works, speaks of Andrew REEED as being a Colonel with Wolfe at Quebec (Canada) in 1753 (this would be the semi-famous Battle of Abrams Plains, Quebec, which my gggg-grandfather on my mother's side served in, George McLaughlin). I can find no proof of this." "He had 8 sons and one daughter. Two sons, John and Harry, died before the Revolution, but their sons fought. All of the other sons but Thomas served well in the Revolution." "Four of his sons, David, Paul, Joseph and Andrew, were very prominent in the Revoltion, while William was a Private, later Captain. Several of his grandsons also were in the Revolution, the latter all in the War of 1812." "In Maine Historical Society Rec. 1888, Volume 5, P. 129-130, Parker McCobb REED, a descendent of the original Andrew REED speaks of Andrew as a Colonel in the English Army and aid to General Wolfe in Quebec." "I am a direct lineal descendent of Andrews oldest son, Andrew and of his seventh son, Captain Joseph REED. I feel that the Mass. Records concerning Captain Joseph REED are very incomplete. It merely says he was (illegible) 1st. Lt. in his brothers, Captain David REED's, Company, Col. Jones Regiment, May 8, 1776, also (illegible) Captain Pinkhams detachment, 1 mo (I think that's what that says), March 29, 1780, in (illegible) (service, maybe?), of (illegible) and Boothbay." "Now his brother Paul had letters of marquee(?) and refusal. Was Master of (illegible) Warran, 1776, captured, 1777, also commander of brig Reprisal, which captured Br. ??? Nancy. Also Com. Commander sloop Sen Wadsworth, Privateer, 1781." "Mr. Joseph REED was just as famous as Captain, but I can find no official records of his deeds. My father who was a sea captain (I believe this to be Captain Freeman REED) who was lost in 1889 used to tell me of his deeds during the Revolution."

    1. [IRL-ANTRIM] All Names List
    2. David Reed
    3. I have to wonder...am I the only one who's bothering to do an "All Names" list of my own? Just for the documents I've found and kept...It's an incredibly complicated thing, to make this list!!! I'm starting to wonder if I'm the only one who's done it, and if I'm wasting my time...I really think it'll pay off once it's "complete" (as complete as anything ever is in this project). I should have been doing it from the beginning, I can tell you that!!! -David (One of those bums from the Colonies...)
