Hi Hilary, Thank you for your kind Christmas message. I noticed you have the name BARNETT in your list of names. Where are your Barnetts from? I have my gg grandfather George Barnett, born Yorkshire m 1859 St Frances Melbourne to Mary Ann Lyons, born Kilkenny immigrated to New Zealand 1863 Mary Ann Lyons born Kilkenny. Can't find anything on George in Yorkshire, said his parents were James Barnett and Margaret Murray. There is one possible barnett in 1841 census, but has the wrong fathers name. Hi all Anyone researching the McClures of Duneane near Randalstown who had a bacon factory? Part of the family moved to Co Tyrone. Bob Send instant messages to your online friends http://uk.messenger.yahoo.com
Bairbre, what time period are you interested in? Jack
Anyone have McClure ancestors of Craigywarren Townland north of Ballymena? I'd be happy to share information. ---------------beth
Hi, I'm a new lister researching TOAL, QUINN,GRAHAM,MADDEN from TOOMEBRIDGE area. Would like to hear from any others researching these names. Bairbre.
Beth: Maybe so, maybe not! I have McClures in my line (by marriage) buit they were also neighbors in Ahoghill, Glagorm Estate area of Co. Antrim. Family lore has both the Crooks and McClures arriveing on the same ship at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by no later that 1741. There is a Alexander McClure who apparently was someone of interest as there are at least 3 books written by him back to the early 1900's. I have not read any of them. Hello I have quite an unusual surname in my family tree. My Grt Grandmother who was born in Ireland but lived after marriage in Scotland had her name as SANDLONS. Her marriage record in Belfast lists her as SANDS and her family at the time of her birth was SANDLIN. There is a whole scale of variants some of which are: SANDLONS, SANLON, SANLONS, SANDLIN, SANDLINS, SANDLAND, SANDILAND, SANDILANDS. Though there are many others. We believe Sandilands is the original. The name going back to the Norman Conquest and was found in 1st England and then Scotland. My Particular Sandlins (and variants) seem to come from Ballymena. There is a James Sandiland b. abt 1793 in the area. His son was b. 1817 in Ballymena. His son was baptised in Millbrow Presb. Church, Antrim. And his children that followed (inc my Great Grandma where b. in the Belfast area and pos. Carnmoney area). The name is unusual and I'd be interested to know if anyone else is researching it. I also have the surname DRENNAN. William Sandlin married Margaret Drennan in 1867. Her father was Robert Drennan. Margaret is listed as living at "The Grange Mallusk". So they may have possibly been from this area. Again if anyone is researching this name in that area I'd be interested to hear from you. Much Thanks Morag
Apologies!! My previous message was meant to be directed to Nevin only - not to IRL-Antrim. Bob
Nevin; A next-door neighbour asked me if I had any knowledge of Mayo - I had to say 'No'! He is looking for further information on a: Neil McLeod Teacher died Ballinglen, Mayo 1865 aged 29 (ex Scotland) He has tried the Mayo Rootsweb list without success so far. I said I would ask you if your CD covered Mayo and, if so, you would do a look-up for him. - Would you? (Of course, Mayo Griffiths may date after 1865!) The IrlAtlas entry is: Townland AKA Acres County Barony Civil Parish PLU Province Ballinglen 1,451 Mayo Tirawley Doonfeeny Killala Connaught Bob
Thanks for that Brenda but from what I have been able to put together previously it sounds like it was more like an 'official post' that had a term of office. Had a look at what I could on where you suggested but there are no occupations showing and I am fairly certain that he was back in the UK in 1901. Lynette
Our son arrived for a visit from Brisbane on Tuesday night - he has brought with him documents relating to my husband's GG Grandfather's involvement with the Masonic Order - along with photocopies of 2 other documents one which has Province of Ontario at the top with what is obviously a seal - this document relates to approval for GG Grandfather to act as a Commissioner for taking affidavits in and for the Courts in Ontario etc etc and goes on to mention proceeding sto be had in the High Court of Justice for Ontario or any other Court of Law or Equity of Record in the said Province etc etc Dated 17 January 1882 and in the 45th year of her Majesty's Reign. This was granted by the Honourable John Beverley Robinson, Lieutenant-Governor of the Province of Ontario. On the reverse of the document it has Commission appoiinting David Galbraith (GG Grandfather) a Commissioner for taking affidavits in and for the Courts in Ontario, under the provisions of Revised Statue of Ontario, cap 63. Recorded this 18 day of January A.D. 1882 in Lib.11 (could be 1 as the y in January comes down to this line on the document copy Folio 12. Signed by what appears to be John N Ussher Deputy Registrar of the Province of Ontario. So now that I have verified that there is only one Ontario I would like to find out how to find out what this document actually means - was David Galbraith in Ontario and for how long etc etc. So if one of our Canadian 'family' could help untangle this little piece of unexpected information I would be most greatful.
