Thank you Jack When I was doing some searching, I found that there seems to be some link to Donegore Parish - with whom I have several Boyds. I do not have the Ordnance map # 14, but I can see these two towns. There were Boyds in Antrim City in the 1666 Hearth Tax list for memory and Colin's links to Templepatrick I think has a number of IGI entries. So while I may not be able to find James Boyd's parents, it may mean that "A" Boyd family was in this area for some 150 years prior. A group of Boyd researchers who have taken DNA test link this family to some form just west of Poyntzpass, Co Armagh, which is about 9kms SW of Banbridge, Co Down. I will see what else I can find on my PC for other Boyd families in this area. Mike, the following mentions a Susanna Jordan, step-daughter of Dominic Heyland and daughter of John Boyd of Rathmore, Antrim, marrying John Abernathy. Susanna died 1712. http://books.google.com.au/books?id=aYiH4O1SqxAC&pg=PA395&lpg=PA395&dq=Rathmore,+Antrim&source=web&ots=dNAPQQ0HZX&sig=5ZP_mTh9YJqF_d_r3rBHmApT1Tw&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=6&ct=result#PPA395,M1 Colin.
Mike, Have you seen this? http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~lboyd/Templepatrickboyds.htm Colin.
Mike, Google finds this, Nilteen is a Parish and Rathmore would appear to be a town/townland just outside Belfast. http://applications.proni.gov.uk/geogindx/parishes/par150.htm Colin. ----- Original Message ----- From: Mike Boyd To: [email protected] Sent: Friday, December 26, 2008 8:16 AM Subject: [IRL-ANTRIM] Where is Rathmore I was recently given a copy of this family which was originally done by someone else. I have found an entry in the 1911 census that is of interest and hope someone will be able to help me determine how I might get additional info on this family. James Burnside, 68, his wife Ester, 60, and daughters, Hannagh, 35, and Agnes, 27. James, Ester, and Agnes were born in Co. Antrim but Hannagh was born in Canada. They lived in the Townland of Kildrum, the Barony of Lower Antrim, the Parish of Connor, and the Dist. Elec. Division of Kells. They were Reformed Presbyterians. With the above info am I able to search for church records? Thank you for any help, Linda

OBITUARY, R. STRAFFORD SMITH, M D., Physician to the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast. THE intelligence of the death of Dr. Strafford Smith has caused the keenest regret, not only among the profession. but also among a large section of the public in the north of Ireland. About three to four weeks ago Dr. Smith suffered from a carbuncle. From this, however, he had recovered, and was congratulating himself on the prospect of a well-deserved holiday when, about September 24th, he was seized with a sharp pain in the course of the sciatic nerve. Symptoms of a general intense septicaemia set in, which chiefly manifested themselves in a low form of pneumonia and in spinal irritation, probably meningeal, but the whole system was evidently affected, and he sank rapidlv, and died on the morning of October 5th. Dr. Smith was the elder son of the late Dr. J. W. T. Smith (Belfast), one of its leading physicians, well known as an indefatigable worker and an acute clinician. He inherited many of his father's qualitiess; the excellent sense of humour, the gentle touch of irony, his marked enthusiasm, and what may be termed his delight in his professional work. He was 40 years old, and had studied medicine in Belfast, London, and Vienna. His connection with the old Royal Hospital, now the Royal Victoria Hospital, was lifelong. He was in succession Resident Pupil, House Physician, Assistant Physician, and in 1895 he became Visiting Physician in succession to the late Dr. Ross. Amongst the students he was a general favourite, and his sound practical clinical teaching was clear and precise, and of that quality which stands to the practitioner in after-life. At the time of his death he was also Consulting Physician to the Belfast Charitable Society, Honorary Physician to Nurses Home, the Lord Cbancellor's Visitor in Lunacy, and the Honorary Secretary to the Medical and Surgical Staff of the Royal Victoria Hospital. He also enjoyed a large practice amongst the better class, and, like his father, he gained the warm friendship of his patients as well as their entire professional confidence. Apart from the many close and life-long personal friends who so deeply regret the loss, everyone must deplore the death of one who had just reached his zenith of usefulness, and will extend to his widow and child their deepest sympathy. Barbara, might this be him? "LEGAL NOTICE. Re Dr. ROBERT STRAFFORD SMITH, late of Great Victoria Street, Belfast, Deceased. ALL PERSONS HAVING CLAIMS ON the Estate of the above Deceased, who died 5th inst., will please send particulars thereof (in writing) to the undersigned, on or before the 18th inst. Dated 9th October, 1900 L'ESTRANGE & BREET, Solicitors 9, Chichester Street, Belfast." The notice appears in the Belfast Newsletter, Tuesday, 16 October, 1900. There would probably be a report of his death in an earlier edition of that newspaper. Margaret, There was a "Goldenbridge Orphenage" in Bangor, Co Down, [it may have been on Bay View Road.] See www.booksulster.com for a book called "Freedom of Angels" by Bernadette FAHEY for her account of surviving Goldenbridge Orphanage. It is listed second hand at £4 sterling. Viola
The civil parish of Grange of Nilteen borders on the southeast corner of the civil parish of Antrim. If you find the towns of Muckamore and Dunadry on your road map, the townland of Rathmore would be between them. Jack
Does anyone know of an orphanage that was in existence in the 1900s Margaret

Hi List members, I am new to this list and im asking for some help. I really dont have alot to go on here with my Great Grandparents but maybe someone could help me out. My Great Grandfather was a Robert Bowles? from Germany who settled in Belfast the spelling of Bowles im not sure of. He married in Belfast to a Woman, first name unknown but last name either Costello or Costley. The marriage would have been before 1897 as that is the year my grandmother was suppose to be born, her first name being Elizabeth. Now Robert had a brother and they had a boot business, before Robert and family moved on to Manchester England. If anyone has a way to find a marriage record, with the correct spellings of the names and date of marriage it would be wonderful. Any help is appreciated, as I know all the lists have been wonderful helping with my research. Thank you Sharon
Suze Where in Australia did your James Oliver die? Do you know if he remained in the same State from his arrivial? I think you may find websites from each of the State Archives on passengers arriving INTO their State. I would try Western Australia and Queensland first. Su I don't know where you are in Australia, but you should look for Anglican Archives. I visited the Anglican Archives in Brisbane some years ago, and was able to find relevant baptisms. The good thing was they also included dates of birth, a bonus when the births were not in the Index. Bev Su wrote> > How difficult is it to access Church Records for baptism or christening > records?
