I've not had the book open for a number of years and I've learned a few things in looking for a sample to post. First of all, the Adair Family Archives (reference # HA12 and from A-E , i.e. HA12/A1) mostly concerns the estate in England. HA12/F concerns the Irish estates and while there are still 40-50 pages of leases, it isn't quite the amt. I originally thought were there. Secondly, I probably gave the wrong impression when I mentioned a list. If it were a list of index entries, we'd all be a whole lot happier. Unfortunately, it's a listing of what's in these Archives. I would appreciate a copy as well. Thank you Ann D.
Colin These are some of the deals that I have of Rev Adam Boyd:- >From Pennsylvania Genealogies, William H. Egle, 1886, pp 323-324: "His [Adam Boyd's, grandson of Rev. Adam Boyd] ancestors were of that sturdy and fearless race, who, after winning religious liberty at home, braved the perils of the ocean and a life in the wilds of America, that they might establish civil and religious freedom in the New World. The ancestor of this family was Adam Boyd, an officer of the rank of captain in the army sent by Charles I, to Ireland, on the roll of Scottish division June 6, 1649. As was usual in Scotland, one of the sons, Adam (2) went into the Church; his son Adam (3) was also a Presbyterian clergyman. Early in 1714, his son John (4) and a younger brother, Rev. Adam Boyd, left their native land, Scotland, arriving at Philadelphia in the summer of that year." This gives us the following lineage: O1 Adam Boyd (I) - captain in the army sent by Charles I (reign 1625-1649) to Ireland. P1 Rev. Adam Boyd (II) Q1 Rev Adam Boyd (III) - b. 1666, Presby. clergyman, married Mary Norton, dau of Mr Norton, b 16xx, d 17xx, and had issue:- Children: R1 John Boyd R2 Rev. Adam Boyd (IV) James Curran's work of 1995, p 10, has the following:- "If this lineage is correct, then our Rev. Adam Boyd is clearly Adam Boyd [R2]. I must admit, however, to two qualms in all this. First, this lineage has John Boyd [R1] marrying Jane Craig, daughter of Thomas in 1715. Similarly, Rev. Adam [R2] married Jane Craighead, daughter of Thomas in 1723. Not impossible, but the stories are so much alike as to raise a serious question. Second, it contains the statement '1714. John and his younger brother, Rev. Adam Boyd, Sr., left Scotland and came to Philadelphia.' On the face of it, this statement is demonstrably wrong. Rev. Adam Boyd did not leave from Scotland, he did not come in 1714, and he did not come to Philadelphia. However, there is, of course, the possibility that he did travel with his older brother in 1714, even he was not a minister at the time, and then returned to Ireland to enter upon his first trials in Coleraine. This quotation from William H. Egle, would suguest to me that IF THIS TREE IS CORRECT, that Captain Adam Boyd had come from Scotland as part of Monroe's Army of 1642 and WAS THEREFORE MOST LIKELY NOT RELATED TO ANY OF THE OTHER ADAM BOYD'S IN ANTRIM BEFORE 1642 - ie not a brother, cousin but a more distant Boyd family. Antrim Northern Ireland. Note that these IGI entries are from someone family tree and are not Church Records. So they are not positive proof that Rev Adam was born in Ballymoney. The bulk of the following quote comes from A History of the Presbyterian Church in America from its origin until the year 1760, Rev. Richard Webster, 1857 with the additions marked "JM" coming from the History of the Presbyterian Church in Forks of the Brandywine, Chester, Co., Pa, James M'Clure, 1885 and those marked "JSF" coming from One Hundred and Fiftieth Anniversary of the Upper Octorara Church, J. Smith Futhey, 1870: ADAM BOYD (R2) Was born at Ballymoney, Ireland, in 1692, and came to New England as a probationer in 1722 or '23. [JM - He supplied, for some time, the pulpit left vacant at Dedham, Mass., by the death of the Rev. Joseph Belcher, and also officiated in other churches near Boston; but, having been disappointed in his expectation of a settlement, he concluded to return to his native country.] He was furnished by Cotton Mather with a commendatory certificate [JSF: A copy, in Cotton Mather's handwriting, has been preserved among the Mather MSS in the library of the American Antiquarian Society, at Worcester, Massachusetts.]: In 1692, there were Boyd families in Both Ballymoney and Ballymena, so both are equally possible. In any case, the indexes themselves can give a great deal of information but it's a matter of looking at entry by entry. I'm so sorry if I gave the wrong impression. Linda

One of the files at PRONI is the Adair family archives. Originals are held at the Suffolk Record Office, Lowestoft Branch in England. The indexes have been filmed by the LDS Library on FHL BRITISH Film 258761. I was so excited when I found the file, I closed my eyes and asked that the entire file be photocopied. :D $55 later and I took the file home. While the main focus of the files are the Adair family, quite a large section is devoted to rentals they had in the Ballymena area 1600 - 1700's. Listings in those indexes can include 3 generations of family. It takes mass time to go through these indexes because there is no order to the way they are listed but the payoff can be fantastic. Worth the time to do some research there. The items included are fairly long but I will email that list to anyone who is interested. Linda Linda
I would love to have the list. Thank you so much! I hope you don't mind that I forward your email to the Yahoo Mid-Antrim group as there are lots of Ballymena ancestors on the list. The film is an index indicating names or an index indicating areas or what? Hi I've just had a look on Ancestry to see if I could find my Hugh Heany coming from Northern Ireland to England around 1863/64 and I couldn't find anything my question is if someone is from Northern Ireland at that time are they considered an alien or a British Subject. Is that the reason perhaps I couldn't find him?? Kind regards Dianna
Hi Ireland up until 1922 was ruled by Britain so there is no records of movements between ireland and england. Hi Could someone be able to tell me where I would find a detailed map of Glenavy Co Antrim with the town of Aghadolgan on it please, I would like to see where my Heaney family came from. Kind regards Dianna
In response the Colin's request regarding a non-commercial B & B near Ballymoney where the folks have an interest in genealogy, I don't know of one. But I did just earlier this month go to that area to research my family the McCrubb's who lived in Loughile Parish in the Corkey and Ballyweny townlands. I stayed outside of Ballycastle in a B& B called Kenbane Farm. I absolutely loved it and the owner, Nan was originally from Ballymoney and her husband from Ballycastle. They do not have a particular interest in genealogy but were lovely people. Nan was very helpful and called the local studies librarian in Ballymena regarding a Ordinance Survey map so I could find the townland. When I got to the library, the librarian had the pages ready for me to look at and she copied them for me. I very highly recommend it and my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in County Antrim. Incredibly beautiful coastal area which I hope those going to the conference will leave a little time to explore. I scheduled this trip before I knew about the fall conference, but what a great opportunity and I urge anyone who is considering going to absolutely do it!!
