I suggest www.kiwicelts.com , although this is obviously a New Zealand site the originator obviously either came from Co. Antrim or has extensive knowledge of it. I live in Co. Antrim and use this site very often to get exact townland positions. When website is opened go to Irish Administrative district maps, you will see 4 boxes along the top. In the first box click "County", second box click "Antrim", third box "Townlands" and the fourth box will give you a list of townlands. Click on the one you want and you will be taken to that area. From there you will see all surrounding townlands. Happy hunting. Hi Mary Elizabeth Look at askaboutireland.ie and put in Griffiths Valuation, select placename and enter your townland name. You can zoom out and in, up and down and see the surrounding townlands Pauline www.irishhomesteads.com On Sat, Oct 9, 2010 at 3:17 AM, Mary Elizabeth Wagner <[email protected]>wrote: > > > Does anyone know if there are on-line maps of townlands for each of the > parishes within Co. Doreen, The Irish Family History Foundation (IFHF) website seems to show this christening as 1844. See http://www.rootsireland.ie/ Unfortunately it's a pay site and costs five euros to see further details. (And I'm not sure how much detail would be there, anyway) You could check the Family Search Beta site to see if they have any free data for the same event. What extra are you hoping to find? You know parents and approximate date and location. Does it change much if she's born in another month or another part of Antrim? Peter in Sydney

Hi Sharon As you live in Australia you can join the National Library of Australia on line at http://www.nla.gov.au/ They will send you a library card and then you can have free access to the British newspapers plus other resources. Hi Lyn Really? I will certainly check this out - we have free access to o/s libraries too? Gosh! I will never get off the computer! I knew about the Australian papers being online but I am first generation Australian so no convicts or earlier settlers. BTW I know I am a bit out of area but I am researching the families of GEORGE WILLIAM PHAIR (spouse CATHERINE SYMLIE) and GEORGE SMYLIE in Sligo. Also WILLIAM MOORE born 1881 mother CATHERINE MOORE. According to oral history CATHERINE left WILLIAM in the Sligo Orphanage and went to Belfast. Sharon Jameson Hi Sharon Do you know that Australians have access for free through our National Library? Other countries have free access through other venues as well - one is National Library of Wales. All we need is a library card from the National Library which is mailed to us and we can then use all the library's licensed e-resources including many newspaper databases. http://www.nla.gov.au/app/eresources/ You may already know this one but others may not - Australian newspapers are here free and available to anyone. Useful in tracking immigrant families and sometimes there is news from the UK. http://newspapers.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/home Another good resource at NLA is Trove. Regards Lyn Brisbane Oz.

This link was posted to one on the Rootsweb lists http://newspapers.bl.uk/blcs/ It covers some of the papers from Belfast, England and Scotland. I took out a 7 day subscription for £9.99 and it was the best money spent in a long time! I have found some amazing things in various branches of my family including 2 bankrupts. I have been trying to follow up the family below for a while now without much success. Hatches / matches / dispatches gave their marriage date, dates their children were born and then their dates of death! Bargain! It just takes patience to browse through all the search results but again I say well worth it! Sharon Just curious how you are accessing old papers and which ones. To Rick Hutton; I certainly appreciate your doing the research that produced those two records. I surely hope it is the correct John Allison - Jane Watters couple that John Allison listed as his parents on his Montreal, Quebec, Canada marriage license in 1929. The one stumbling block for me is that the above John Allision was supposedly b c 1897 in Co Antrim. I found a son by that name listed for a John and Jane (Watters) Allison born in Oct-Dec 1901 in Ballymena. So, I do not know if there were at least two couples that married that were named John Allison and Jane Watters or if he misstated his age in Canada. For some unknown reason the Canadian Archives failed to enter John Allison's personal data when he died in 1943. He was serving in the Royal Canadian Army and is buried in a military area of a cemetery. It has been 6 months since we rec'd a personal phone call from them saying they would expedite getting his info listed. As of yesterday they had not done so. Again, many thanks for your kindness, Bettye
HI Angela The census records for 1861 to 1891 were destroyed by order of the government during the First World War. Nothing survives for the Northern Ireland area. The first full census is the 1901 which is available online. Alice Not sure if you've done this but I found your Cochrane surname in Pembroke http://www.islandnet.com/ocfa/search.php - just type in surname, Renfrew and Pembroke - be sure to do all pages. Looks like they are buried in Pembroke Wesley United according to the marriage cert they got married in Wesley Church. If the transcriptions are available I can let you know what the headstones say. http://digital.library.mcgill.ca/countyatlas/searchpeople.php = Cochrane in Renfrew. I'd say that Andrew Cochrane listed here in Renfrew is the reason William settled there too. Note: when you do the search just put the surname in and nothing else because Cochrane did not come up when I specified county. There are 3 pages of Cochrane surname you might want to view. Full record for Cochrane, Andrew Last Name Cochrane First Name Andrew Dates b. 1823 Business Farmer and Councillor Year Settled 1834 Post Office Arnprior Township McNab County Renfrew Cochrane surname still in Pembroke Wally Cochrane Electric - (613) 732-7915 I'd give them a call and ask Wally if he knows where his ancestors are from in Ireland. I just got back from Ireland and again while there we were knocking on doors, making phone calls, etc. You just never know what you might come up with. Email me privately if you want more help. Hi listers I have just been sitting going through old newspapers trying to piece together the family of JANET WALKER born 1824 in Glasgow. Her parents were ROBERT WALKER and AGNES AITKEN. JANET married JOHN RAPHAEL ESQ in Glasgow in 1848 and it would appear from newspaper clippings that they spent their time in Ballmena. JOHN died Oct 1877 and is buried in the family burying ground at Kirkinroila. Just wondering if anyone on the list has any connection with this family. Sharon (in Oz)
Hi Bettye Here's some info: John Allison married Jane Watters 14 Sept 1878 at Ballymena 2nd Presbyterian Church in the parish of Kirkinriola. Thomas Watters married Martha Orr 13 Nov 1851 at Connor Presbyterian Church, parish of Connor, district of Ballymena.
