    1. [IRL-ANTRIM] John Barber in Templepatrick
    2. Elizabeth Abbott
    3. I'm new to the list and would appreciate any help at all with the following. John Barber was my gg-grandfather. He was born in Ireland and emigrated to Canada (year unknown). He married Mary Prentice on May 4, 1839 in Nepean, Ontario. He died on July 25, 1845 at the age of 40 which gives me 1805 as his year of birth. His marriage and burial records are held at the Ottawa Anglican Church Archives. The 1842 Canadian census indicates he belonged to the "Church of England" and his three of his childrens' baptisms are also on record at the Ottawa Anglican Church Archives. The IGI has a John Barber who was born May 16, 1805 in Templepatrick, Antrim. The father was Thomas Barber. I'm aware that the IGI is not always accurate but I'm at a dead end trying to find my gg-grandfather's roots in Ireland. Does anyone have more information or suggestions? Many thanks, Elizabeth Canada

    3. Ann When we were talking about Rev Martin's migration, I said that I would post to the Antrim list to see if any resaarch had BEEN DONE ON WHERE THE PASSENGER'S CAME FROM IN IRELAND. If that has not been done, I think that it would be a worth while project for the list to undertake. I have just sent separately an website for the passeanger lists, but it may be worth sending the website for the Rev Martin papers at SC. 3. Thank you Tom. Quicker than me typing up several pages. There were 2 William Boyd and families that came on this migration. One of the "Hopewell. He got 250 acres in Laurens County and had 4 in his family. The second on the "James and Mary". He also got 250 acres but in Newberry County. So at best they could only be first cousins, if not more distant cousins. I think that one of these William Boyd's, I have the family for, but I will have to do some research to see which one. I think he had a brother Archibald Boyd whose child married one of William's children. My purpose in posting about these ships passengers, is to find out if anyone has done any research on where they came from in Ireland. I have not got any replies back form the Antrim list yet about this. 3. Thank you, Mike Boyd, for an interesting report on your genealogy trip. I have read about the Reverend Martin for years. I have not seen a list of passengers, but there is probably one in the South Carolina Archives. I can send you a link to their documents. You can also Google that. My immigrant ancestor, Patrick Todd, 1768-1852, came to SC in 1798 after the group with Martin, but he was also allied with the Associate Reform Presbyterian Church. I found him on a list of voters in a court election for Antrim in 1790. There were two residences listed, Carnetly and Ballybana (Carneatly and Ballyalbanagh). He was married to Janet Carmichael and when they emigrated, they had four children - Archibald, John, Ellender, and Janet Betsey. My Todds settled in Laurens, SC where there were other Todds already. I have found no definite kinship, but there is a slight DNA match with Nathaniel Todd. Patrick's kin have a closer match with a Robert Todd who came to PA very early. This table sets out the name of the passenger, the amount of Land they got and location of it by County within South Carolina and the Size of the Family. I understand that this table was drawn up from the Land Grants given by the SC Authorities, so may not include people on the ships who joined other family members in SC independently. So the QUESTION is, "has anyone done any research on where these families came from in Ireland?" And were they all Reformed Presbyterian's like Rev William Martin. Secondly, if this has not been done, is this some thing that this Net list should try to undertake? Mike Boyd Chairman Historical Committee House of Boyd Society Joy Bold

    3. I got home to Brisbane, Australia only last Saturday after going to a very successful Home coming at Ballymoney, County Antrim on 1-2 October 2010. For a number of years, I have been saying to Tourist Officers in Towns that I have visited in Scotland and Ireland that they have been missing out on a very important part of the Tourism dollar/pound when they do not look at the Genealogical Market. (We do not mind if it rains when we walk around cemeteries or some of the other issues that may put off other tourist. And get thrown out of Libraries at closing time.) I congratulate the Ballymoney Council for putting on this work shop on and hope that they will repeat this some time in the future. (There were various suggestions on how such an event might be improved in the future.) There were people from Norway, Scotland, England, Canada, various States form the USA and myself from Australia. I found about 7 new Boyd families from those that came along plus another 15 or so from Dorothy Arthur's book on the Baldmoney Old Church Graveyard. This Graveyard had a grave dated 6010. It could have been any churchyard in Scotland. For people on the Ayrshire list, County Antrim and Ballymoney, might be one area that you may need to look for your missing relatives in Ayrshire. Thank you Keith for work that you put into organising this. I just hope that other Council area do something similar. (Although one lady who was researching a family found out that she had made a wrong connection using Ancestry data and had several generations wiped of that Branch of her family.) 3. Dorothy Arthur's book says the bodies were reinterred.  One would assume in the same cemetery and the stones moved with them.  You could contact her to see if she knows.  It happened in the 1840's.   Anne Shier Klintworth Check out my genealogy blog at http://genealogygirl.wordpress.com/ ----- Original Message ---- > From: Mike Boyd <[email protected]> > To: [email protected] > Sent: Wed, November 3, 2010 9:41:09 PM > Subject: [IRL-ANTRIM] What happend to the Graves when the road was built >through the Old Parish graveyard at Ballymoney > > During the tour of the Old Parish Cemetery at Ballymoney, were were told > that the road between the Old and New section went through the graveyard. > > Does anyone know that happened to these graves (and more importantly the > MI's on them)? > > Mike Boyd > Brisbane > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to >[email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes >in the subject and the body of the message >

    3. Mary, I'd try Genuki or simply Google "Antrim Parishes". Otherwise Google Maps should identify most locations. Peter

    2. Here's another to try. _http://www.election-maps.co.uk/electmaps.jsf_ (http://www.election-maps.co.uk/electmaps.jsf) Try the three Antrims and East Londonderry. Tick Townland in Show Layers. 3. PRONI has several inter-linked pages about townlands. You'll find full lists by county, as well as maps to show where they are. Just go to the following page and follow the links; http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/local_history/geographical_index/townlands.htm Chris Morgan Sheffield ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mary Elizabeth Wagner" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, October 09, 2010 3:17 AM Subject: [IRL-ANTRIM] Townlands of Co.
