I would appreciate hearing from those on this list who have had experience with searching Presbyterian Church Records for County Antrim that they have found at the Latter Day Saints Family History Centre. Specifically which parishes are available and what period of time do they cover? Ray.Jones,Ontario
My thanks to Anne, Bob, Bill, Jack and Alma for their help and comments re. my search for 2 Ballymena death certificates/photocopies. Ray.Jones
Well, in that case I'm at a loss to know what the problem can have been - in my experience the Family History Centre staff have asked me to fill in a copy request, I've done so, paid the (dollar or two) fee and picked up the copy in a week or so. I'd be inclined to say that either you were dealing with inexperienced staff who misunderstood your request or they have changed to a policy of 'no copying'. Ray; If my understanding of your question is correct you were asking the wrong people or for the wrong thing. All I would expect to get from LDS would be a photo-copy of the micro-film page on which I saw the B, D, or M entry. LDS never have dealt in certificates, as far as I know. Re LDS films. Although they have films of the B. M. D. indexs up to the 1920's, they only have films of the actual records up to the 1870's. Jack
Ray The price I gave you was for a Certificate of Death which is official for civil and legal matters. " A photocopy is not suitable for administrative or legal purposes but is ideal for genealogical purposes." Photocopy is 6 Euros. I have found all research and documents from Ireland and England to be more expensive then the US or Canada. Supply and demand and currency conversion, I guess. At least it is the same price if you fly to Roscommon and go to the counter to request it. I say that because I found a museum researcher in Nova Scotia that charged $20/hr canadian if I were a resident of Canada and $20/hr US for me. I guess US hours are longer. :) Bill ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ray Jones" <nantwich@istar.ca> To: <whazelto@midsouth.rr.com> Sent: Thursday, September 14, 2006 3:04 PM Subject: Re: [IRL-ANTRIM] Ballymena deaths > Bill, > 10 Euros seem a lot compared to the $2 U.S. quoted by LDS. > Ray > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Bill Hazelton" <whazelto@midsouth.rr.com> > To: <irl-antrim@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Thursday, September 14, 2006 3:44 PM > Subject: Re: [IRL-ANTRIM] Ballymena deaths > > > > Ray > > > > Here are their fees on their web site: 10 Euros. > > http://www.groireland.ie/fees.htm > > > > Happy Hunting > > Bill Hazelton > > Memphis > > ----- Original Message ----- > > From: "Ray Jones" <nantwich@istar.ca> > > To: <IRL-ANTRIM-L@rootsweb.com> > > Sent: Thursday, September 14, 2006 2:29 PM > > Subject: [IRL-ANTRIM] Ballymena deaths > > > >> 2)What is the approx. cost of death certificates obtained from Roscommon? > >> Regards, > >> Ray.Jones,Ontario > >> > >> ------------------------------- > >> To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > > IRL-ANTRIM-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > > quotes in the subject and the body of the message > > > > > > ------------------------------- > > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > > IRL-ANTRIM-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > > quotes in the subject and the body of the message > > >
Hello John: Thank you for yor kind offer, the people i am looking for were all HORNER and according to Griffiths there were a group of them farming on Knockanavery and most with the same forenames as my wife's grandmothers family, John,William,Alexander,Andrew, Jane and Agnes. Thanks again Tony.
Just for future reference, most LDS libraries have microfilm machines that will also copy what is on the screen while you have the film there. Also, a digital camera works very well. Usually you need to turn off the flash but the copies come out quite well. When ordering a death from Ireland you will get what is comparable to our death certificates, although they will only be copying the information from the death record book, I think. I have always had good luck with ordering marriages, births and deaths from Ireland, but you don't get much more information that is in the LDS films. Approx. 3 weeks ago I visited my local LDS Family History Centre and located 2 Ballymena deaths of interest in the Ireland films for 1876 and 1881. I requested copies of the death certificates from LDS in Utah and was advised today that they do not have the death records for these years. They have directed me to the Republic of Ireland Civil Registration Office in Roscommon. My questions are: 1) Has anyone had a similar experience in requesting certificates from Utah for which the years are not available? and 2)What is the approx. cost of death certificates obtained from Roscommon? John. . . . may I ask to be included in your favor to help search the Roseyard Presbyterian church burial records . . . . I am searching for my Blair ancestors in the area (Blaire, Blare, Blayr). The names of John, Adam, William, James. Robert and Thomas could belong to me. They were Presbyterians and Adam was a merchant in Ballymoney in the mid-1700s. Some were in the area as early as mid 1600s, I feel certain. May I do a favor for you in the USA Midwest? thank you for any help . . . Betty Blair McCollom

Hi, List.... Some of my family were communicants at a St. Andrew's church in Belfast. Would anyone know if there was a cemetery associated with this church? I'm not sure where, exactly, St. Andrew's was located; but my DOUGLAS family lived on "Reidville Street" in Belfast during the mid- to late- 1800s, so I assume St. Andrew's would have been in the same general area. It seems that Reidville Street no longer exists, but if anyone has access to an 1880s vintage map, it should be there. My DOUGLASSes (and members of my PURVIS and ROBINSON families) left Belfast for the United States in the last half of the 19th century. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions you might be able to offer. Bill T. Worcester, MA USA
If anyone has information on anyone in this family, I would love to hear from you. William Maude was born around 1842.
