Does anyone have any information on where I might find information on my direct ancestors, Andrew REED and Jean MURRAY, who are believed to emigrated from Antrim, Ulster, Ireland, about 1730? It appears they MAY have made several trips from Ireland and/or England to the colonies (US). It appears Andrew REED may have been in the English Army...perhaps a Lt. or Cl? It appears they MAY have left behind a son named Henry REED, who married a woman named Sarah MCCULLOUGH, and that Henry may have died shortly thereafter that (5-15 years?) and that Andrew REED sent for his daughter-in-law in Ireland, and she emigrated to the colonies with her and Henry's son. Is there anyone who might help with this? -David Reed Bangor, Maine USA

Hi, Dave. I don't know much about her except that Jeremiah told his mother he was getting married at the last minute before he left for the US. They arranged a party quickly and then they left. Deb Logan
Whoa, wait a second...is this Sarah McCullough the same Sarah McCullough who had been married to an. H. REED previously, but he died in Ireland??? I have some information that says Andrew REED and Jean MURRAY left Ireland and came to the U.S. leaving behind a son, H. REED, who married a woman named Sarah McCullough, and that later, son H. REED passed away, and Sarah McCullough came to the U.S. later... This of course may be a different Sarah McCullough, but, it struck a note worth asking... -David Reed Bangor, Maine USA -----Original Message----- From: irl-antrim-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:irl-antrim-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Ruth Enns Sent: Wednesday, October 18, 2006 11:17 AM To: irl-antrim@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [IRL-ANTRIM] frew family lucky you two, to get match! Hi Wendy As far as I am aware no-one in my direct line went to USA and the threads back to probably Scotland are too far and tenuous to try and join. It is likely that my McCARTNEYs and WALLACEs were Scots who came to Ireland but from where or when who knows? I have got back to Thomas Wallace 1815 and William McCARTNEY c1780. I have only managed this because of what my mum remembered and then been able to substantiate via church records etc on visits to N Ireland. Then my uncle died 2 years ago (he continued to live in the family home after granny and grandad died 40 years ago) and as mum is last surviving child I have had to do all the sorting out. My granny never threw anything out nor did my uncle luckily and I have found old family photos that my mum has identified, letters, marriage certificates and other certificates to claim my gt grandparents claims for an old age pension. So a real treasure trove. Especially the letters home from my gt uncle Johnny who was killed in WW1. Still trying to sort through everything as well as sell the house, which is sad as I spent all my holidays there and was born there too. At least because so many people went to states in 1600 and 1700s you can usually get back further than those of us whose families stayed here. My granny told my mum that her granddad told her that during the famine 'they just pulled their belts in another notch'! It is William McCARTNEY's (c1780) grandson Isaac McCARTNEY's mother in law who is Jane SLOAN. I am writing today to request some tip or lead to help me find an ancestor of mine, which I have information that states he comes from Antrim, Ireland. The information I have shows that my direct line of parentage on my fathers side leads to an Andrew Reed (born 1693 Antrim, Ireland died July 22, 1762 Boothbay (then called Townsend), Maine USA) who we a Jean Murray (born January 06, 1698 Antrim, Ireland died February 08,FEB 1780, Boothbay, Maine USA). The information I have on the couple says that they were married in 1724, but I don't have any information on if that was in the USA/colonies, or in Antrim, Ireland. I also have some information that they had a son, Joseph Reed, b. 1738, in Antrim, Ireland d. March 06, 1809, in Boothbay (Townsend), Maine, USA) That information would seem to indicate that they were married in Antrim, Ireland (as the 1724 information indicates), but I have no confirmation of that. Could you please offer any information that would point me in the direction? I'm at a complete dead end. Thank-you Sir, -David Allen Reed Bangor, Maine, USA
