    1. [IRL-ANTRIM] Carnlea - Parks
    2. Ronda Gregg
    3. Thankyou Nevin for your reply. The Parks all seem to come from Carnlea. Though they mainly married at Killymurris they are not all buried there, although some may have moved away. Can anyone tell me where the Presbyterian Church in the Parish of Kirkinriola is? Regards, Ronda Send instant messages to your online friends http://uk.messenger.yahoo.com

    3. Anne, I believe we have corresponded before but I didn't realise that you were connected to STEVENSON. My family is also from Ballymena! And we are connected to RUSSELL. We have John and Mary Rankin Stevenson living in Ahoghill/Galgorm area, but apparently one of the family ran the haberdashering shop on the main street in Ballymena (it was still there in late 1970's when I visited). John and Mary had sons Robert born 1798 (mine); Philip; John; and William Clatworthy. Another son stayed in Ireland. A daughter Margaret took care of the parents when the first 4 brothers emigrated to Canada between 1825 and 1848. Our family apparently came with neighbours from either Ahoghill area, or where they had lived previously: Sloan, Clark and Russell. Can you find a connection? Your letter was written from William Street, Ballymena. My bet that is near or is actually the shop! 2. Anne Shier Klintworth
    3. Possibly you would be interested in the little bit of Park information in letter at the bottom of this. My Stevenson family was from Carlea. I have been there twice and also to Killymurris church and graveyard. Let me know if there is anything I could help you with. I met a woman named Irene Park when I was there but I don't have her address. The last I knew, she was still alive as was her sister. She knew a lot about the people from Carlea, but when I was there that time I didn't know enough about my Stevensons and Mortons to even ask the right questions. She was quite old and may not be alive anymore. She lived on Carnlea Rd. But I could ask my cousin to find out. She isn't listed in the directory anymore. There are a couple Parks listed in the directory that live in Glarryford which is where Killymurris church is. I know some of the people from Carlea went to the Clough Pres. Church in Clough. There is a very old graveyard there. On the 1864 Stipend list of Clough Presbyterian Church there is a John Park - Pew #16, and Patrick Park pew #71. Wm. Russell pew #29, Alexander Russle pew #72 (he is buried in Clough Cemetery with wife Jane and daughter in law Jane and son Wm.),and Thomas Russle pew #76. There is an Alexander Park buried at Clough cemetery - he died age 74 in 1907 and Magaret his wife died 1917 age 80, James who died 1908 age 33 and another Alexander son of the above one died 1968 ae 89, and his wife Annie. Also a Robert who died in 1979. Probably none that you care about. I have a partial transcription of Clough cemetery. LETTER FROM MARY STEVENSON SMITH TO HER BROTHER ADAM IN IOWA. MARY IS THE DAUGHTER OF WILLIAM AND LYDIA MORTON STEVENSON. "William St. Ballymena June 10th, 1904 My Dear Brother, We were very glad to have your kind and welcome letter and to see from it you are all quite well. You will think us very long of replying to it, but you must not think I appreciated it any the less, but as I am not so good at writing myself as I want to, I have to be more or less dependent on someone else. This is your cousin Adam Stevenson's eldest daughter that is writing you now but of course you don't know anything about his family. We are both quite well at present but indeed the past Winter has been pretty severe on me. I am hobbled with rheumatism and you yourself have a fair idea what damp, wet weather means to those who are. We are enjoying beautiful weather now and it makes me feel so much better. We have a little pony and trap and we drive out quite often to the country which is very refreshing. You asked about some of our neighbors. Indeed there are so many changes, it would be difficult for me to tell you about them all. I will however do my best to remember all that I think would interest you. Andrew Kerr is still alive and has been enjoying (I should judge from his robust appearance) excellent health up till a month or two ago when he was ill for some time, but I think he is quite well again. He is living at present in Casemento Castle with people named Calderwood who have part of it rented. He sold his farm some years ago and has been living on his means since. His old sister Jane who used to live with him died 9 or 10 years ago. James and William his brothers are also both dead. A son of James died last February, Adam Stevenson Kerr. There is only one more son and daughter left who still live in the old place. William's family are all married but one son who lives at home, a widow sister keeps house for him. She was married to cousin James Stevenson, who died four years ago. Uncle and Aunt Stevenson are both dead some years ago. Their farm was sold after young James died and John Adams, a brother in law of Adam's bought it. Robert Hanna died this Spring and his son John is living on the farm. Mary Jane Harbinson was married to a man named Campbell, who died shortly after they were married. She has two of a family, little girls the eldest is about 11 years of age. She lives on her Grandfather's farm in the Cabrogh. Lydia is married in America. I think she is in New York State. Susan was married to Adam Harbinson, her cousin, but is dead and he is married again to Annie Morton. James Cumming is still alive and looks quite fresh for a man of his age. David Park is dead six or seven years ago and a son of Robert Guy's lives on his farm. His family live in coffer houses through the country and work for the farmers. We received your photos alright, and I need not tell you how glad I was to have it. John and I will have ours taken sometime soon and will send you ours soon as we get them. I hope this will find you all quite well, as it leaves us at present. Your affect. Sister, Mary Smith." 1. Re: [IRL-ANTRIM] PARK family
    2. Ronda, I found the following information in familysearch.org William John Linton married Esther Park in Killymuris on 18 March 1856 James Russell (aged 25), son of James Russell, married Margaret Park, (aged 22), daughter of Patrick Park, on 2 Sep 1849 in Rasharkin. There is a Patrick Park living in the townland of Carnlea, parish of Kirkinriola, in the Griffith's Valuation of Co Antrim c1861. Kirkinriola is mentioned in other entries for the above marriages on familysearch.org There are several James Russells living around Ballymena in 1861, including one in the townland of Carnlea. 3. Hi everyone I am new to the list and can finally claim ancesters from County Antrim. My ggg grandfather was John McAllister, he married Ellen McFerran ca 1838. I have had a census return from 1881 for years living in Stockton on Tees County Durham but had not been able to prove that they were my family. John & Ellen had daughters Ellen & Rose with place of birth Ireland and Catherine & Mary with place of birth as Stockton. They also had 2 boarders Francis McFerran & John. I have never been able to confirm Ellen's maiden name until today. An aunt has finally given me a partial copy of the 1841 census that was taken 7 June 1910. My ggg grandmother, Ellen is listed aged 2 & her parents, Francis McFerran, Farmer aged 42 & wife Ellen aged 40. The family were living at Crushybracken, Rasharkin. What I don't understand is why only my ggg grandmother aged 2 is listed - she is the youngest member of the family, all the rest have an x and no details. I would be delighted if anyone with local knowledge could tell me where Crushybracken is & also where the family were likely to be baptised. Better still any connections to these families!
