Thanks Pam. I have been to PRONI and the film for Clough starts at 1865. I was hoping you had found information from earlier than that some place else. Thankyou Nevin for the map showing Glarryford I can see how close it is to Carnlea. Thankyou Anne for your information about the Parks, Alexander buried at Clogh is definiately a relative he was born at Killycreen. His father was Patrick Park but I am not sure if he is the one living on Carnlea Rd. In the Primary Valuation of Ireland 1848-1864 there is a Patrick Park of Carnlea and a Patrick Parke of Killycreen. Any other help you can offer would be appreciated. Hi list, I got an e-mail today from someone who is researching the same family line as me that of PATTON in the Ballintoy/Ballycastle area. She sent me this snippet of info: "Just another wee snippet of info i managed to get from my grandpa the other day. Apparently the family cottage was in a place called Carnkirk, which i cant find much about but they lived in the cottage for centuries." She has told me previously that he recalls visiting the cottage (now demolished sadly) and it overlooked the Giant's Causeway. Does anyone know where Carnkirk is? (I've vaguely heard of Carnkirk castle). If anyone could tell me the location/parish/townland etc or any sources for history of the area i would be most grateful. Thanks Morag Cameron

My Stevensons were from Carnlea and Kildowney. Mary lived in the town of Ballymena because she married John Smith. He had been married to her cousin Margaret who died quite young. He was a very wealthy man. When Mary's parents and all of her siblings left for America in 1860 or so, Mary stayed behind. I have a theory that she was left behind to care for her uncle John Morton. She was not married at that time. She didn't marry John Smith until 1871. I have never been able to connect my Stevensons to the Stevensons that lived in town. But I also know I don't know who all of them were. I have tracked down a few of the people in the generations before my William, but I am sure there must be other ones I don't know about. The original farm where my William Stevenson was born is on Kildowney Rd. and is owned by a descendant of the Stevensons. I can send you a report on what I have for this family if you would like. My family is also from Ballymena! And we are connected to RUSSELL. We have John and Mary Rankin Stevenson living in Ahoghill/Galgorm area, but apparently one of the family ran the haberdashering shop on the main street in Ballymena (it was still there in late 1970's when I visited). John and Mary had sons Robert born 1798 (mine); Philip; John; and William Clatworthy. Another son stayed in Ireland. A daughter Margaret took care of the parents when the first 4 brothers emigrated to Canada between 1825 and 1848. Our family apparently came with neighbours from either Ahoghill area, or where they had lived previously: Sloan, Clark and Russell. Can you find a connection? Your letter was written from William Street, Ballymena. My bet that is near or is actually the shop! Hi again, I just looked on my Griffiths map and it looks to me like Patrick Park lived on Carnlea Rd. I can't be sure because can't remember exactly where on the road Irene Park lived, but it looks like it may have been the same property as Patrick Park. It is on the north side of the road, about a 1/4 of the way up Carnlea Rd. I assume you know there are other Parks in the Griffiths in Carlea. I can try to find exactly what road they are on if you want to know. They are not on Carlea Rd. -----Original Message----- From: irl-antrim-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:irl-antrim-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Ronda Gregg Sent: Sunday, November 12, 2006 8:05 PM To: irl-antrim@rootsweb.com Subject: [IRL-ANTRIM] Carnlea - Parks Thankyou Nevin for your reply. The Parks all seem to come from Carnlea. Though they mainly married at Killymurris they are not all buried there, although some may have moved away. Can anyone tell me where the Presbyterian Church in the Parish of Kirkinriola is? Map link to Killymurris Presbyterian Church. It's on the edge of Glarryford village. The current minister is Rev Colin McDowell. _http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?lat=54.9564&lon=-6.3581&scale=25000&ic on=x_ (http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?lat=54.9564&lon=-6.3581&scale=25000&icon=x) I've not got a detailed parish map of the area. A local told me that Killymurris Presbyterian Church is in the townland of Dromore. Dromore is in the parish of Rasharkin and barony of Kilconway. Townland search link. Remember to use a capital for the complete name _http://www.seanruad.com/_ (http://www.seanruad.com/) Presbyterian graveyards can be of relatively recent origin. Presbyterians formerly used graveyards belonging to the local Church of Ireland Parish Church. There are probably several Presbyterian churches in the parish of Kirkinriola. Regards Nevin
