    1. [IRL-ANTRIM] Help needed to find a grave site
    2. Shirlee Cantwell
    3. Hi I need help in trying to find out where my Great Great Grandmother Margaret DALE was buried. Margaret died aged 84 on 31 August 1892 in Ballcloghan, near Broughshane. Margaret outlived her husband Samuel DALE by over 40 years and I think she was buried with her husband in another Townland or Parish. Margaret and Samuel had 5 children with the first two and last one being baptised in the First Broughshane Presbyterian Church - Ferguson (1837), John (1840 and Ellen (1847). So I can only assume that they lived elsewhere between 1840 and 1847. Her son Samuel (d 1919) and Daughter Ellen (d 1915), both unmarried, are buried in the First Broughshane graveyard but Margaret isn't. Have already had a search made of other Cemeteries in the area. Would be grateful for any information received. Shirlee Cantwell Wellington New Zealand

    3. I doubt if there is very much about Matthew E anywhere; the Presbyterian Historical Society in Belfast might have a few details; there is probably an entry for him in the Fasti of the Presbyterian church, the first series, edited by the McConnells. he is mentioned a few times in family history websites, (I am sure you have seen this He married Mary Gray in Antrim, Ireland, 1782. Mary was born March 20, 1760. At 28 years of age Jack became the father of Matthew Elder Balleymoney, Antrim, ... www.familytrail.com/elder/YahooFiles/A.Craig.Elder.pd ) There was another very well known Presbyterian minister, James Elder of Finvoy, b. 1755, who was known as the "Gun of the Gospel",, and still another John Elder 1706-92 b. c. Antrim who was a Presby minister in Pennsylvania Linde

    3. A Matthew Elder was minister of KIlraughts in the 1790s. If this was the father of the woman you are interested in, she would not necessarily be married to someone from Kilraughts; ministers were slightly more mobile than average, and she could have been married to the son of another minister, for instance Linde Lunney

    3. Thank you so much! My ggg grandfather Samuel Burnside's brother married an Elizabeth Gray and one of their children was named Matthew Elder Burnside. I'll pursue this at PRONI. I think the John in PA is going to have been there too soon for me but one never knows. I did a Google search on Matthew and found several people researching Elders and saw your posts and name! 1. [IRL-ANTRIM] Ballymena area cemetery transcriptions
    2. Anne Shier Klintworth
    3. The following cemetery transcriptions are now at the Ballymena library. They are not on the shelves, but presently are held on a separate floor. In general, I think that they intend for people to ask the librarians to look up names and they don't plan to put them out for people to look through. I got them to bring down some of the books, but it was not easy getting them. And they weren't interested in bringing any more down. When they were at the Ballymena Museum they were accessible to the public. While in Ballymena, I talked to Ronnie McBride who is in charge of the cemeteries that are run by the Borough Council. He seemed to think he would do something about getting the transcriptions onto the shelves, or digitized. We'll see. In the meantime, if you want look ups, I would suggest that you contact the library. [email protected] There is an index book, but it lists only the surname and what cemeteries that name is found in. Ahoghill (Brookside) Ahoghill (St. Colmaneli?) Ahoghill (St. Mary's Roman Catholic) Ahoghill (Trinity) Ballyclug Ballymarlow (Church of Ireland) Ballymena Broughsane (Racavan) Broughshane (1st Presbyterian) Broughshane (St. Patrick's Church of Ireland) Buckna (new) Buckna (Old) Clough Connor (kirkhill) Connor (New) Connor (St. Saviors) Crebilly Cullybackey (Craigs) Glenwhirry (Presbyterian) Gracehill (Moravian) Grange (Presbyterian) Kells (Kellswater Reformed Presbyterian) Killymurris The burial books in possession of the Borough Council for the cemeteries they are in charge of (Clough, Kirkinriola - not sure what others) are being digitized. However, it was not clear to me if they will be available to the public or only be a special data base that the librarians can access. In theory it has been arranged for a friend of mine to go in and take pictures of the burial books, but since I returned from Ireland I have not been able to get a confirmed time for this to happen. I suspect it may be difficult for me to make it happen from here but will keep trying. At present the only way to get information from the burial books is if you already know the death date - which if you knew you wouldn't need to ask them. I actually don't remember if I posted this info already or not. If it is a second post, sorry. Anne

    2. Linda Holley
    3. I am looking in Antrim and Down for someone named John (or possibly James) Gray who was married to someone whose maiden name was Elder (and whose father might have been Matthew Elder). This couple had a daughter named Elizabeth who was born about 1812. Sometime between then and about 1833 - 1834 they came to Pennsylvania. It is possible that several of these families -- Burnside, Gray, Elder, and other female lines whose names we don't know -- all came from the same area in Ireland and all came over here around the same time. Thanks for any help, Linda

I'm looking for the address of the Reformed Presbyterian Church in the parish of Doagh Grange, county of Antrim.  I'm also looking for information on the families of my ancestors.  According to the Antrim marriage register my great-grandparents, Matthew King, born 1854, son of Hugh, and Sarah Jane Mawhinney, born 1855, daughter of Samuel, were married in this church on 02-05-1874.  The residence at the time of their marriage looks to me like Dunnsilly or Doonsilly, Antrim.  Susan Mawhinney and William Anderson were witnesses.  Thank you.  Sandy Oddie/IL-USA

    3. Hi Julie, The Mount is a square of large mostly victorian houses in Mount Pottinger in East Belfast off the Albertbridge Road. I used to live there in the 1960s when I first went to work in Belfast. Bombing in the 1939-1945 war may have demolished some of those houses leading to a re-numbering of the street when re-built. Indeed, I seem to remember that there are some more modern styles of house there. Our public (census, church, etc) records have a 100 year "confidentiality" period. We are not yet allowed to see the contents of the 1911 census. Maybe telephone directories from the 1930s/40s for Belfast exist. I am sorry that I cannot assist with data concerning your ancestor.
