    1. Re: [IRL-ANTRIM] Ordnance Survey Memoirs of Ireland Look up

    3. Hi! The mention of the SHORT family in this posting prompts my response. I am a member of the SHORT family that departed Antrim for Glasgow's Calton parish about 1851. They were carpet weavers. They departed Glasgow for New York in 1880 and took up residence in Philadelphia. I do not know what town they were from in Antrim. The names are William & Isabella (nee' Davidson?) SHORT and John & Elizabeth (nee' Surginor?) SHORT. It is thought that they were adherents of a Protestant denomination. William was the father of John, and John named his son after his father. Any thoughts or clues would be appreciated as I do not know anything about this bunch that hailed from Antrim. I have not yet begun to search any Irish records. Many thanx for your attention. It's appreciated. Al ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dr. B. A. 2. I am searching for information on my 4 great-grandfather Robert Carroll (1734 – 10/28/1831 Washington County, Pennsylvania, USA), his wife, Mary (aka Margaret) Bell (1747 – 4/5/1811 Washington County, Pennsylvania, USA) & family. · Family history indicates they were born in County Antrim and left due to religious persecution, (no proof available except tradition/family history) · The information listed below indicates they left Londonderry, Ire. on 8/14/1768 and landed in New Castle, Delaware, USA on 10/3/1768, (their ship may have had an ultimate destination of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA) · Family history indicates their original surname was McCarroll (no proof available except tradition/family history and a few tombstones with that name). Other spellings of their surname found on tombstones, census and family bibles are CARRAL, CARREL & CAREL. · Family history indicates the original origin of our family may have been Scotland (no proof available except tradition/family history.) 3. Hi Marge I see you are related to Luella. She is such a "Genealogy ANGEL", tirelessly helping everyone. I hope everyone on this list does whatever they can to help your search. Sorry I can't help you with the baptisms at this time, they would be held locally by the church. What religion do you believe they where? I believe someone on the list can give you and address to write for records. While Hallidays held leases in the town of Ballymoney as far back as 1738, I don't know about the Garryduff Hallidays. They seemed to have come from Co. Londonderry. You may wish to expand your search for early records to Londonderry. In Garryduff her is some additional information: Here are some candidates for Mary's brother James and uncles Andrew, Robert and William from the Tithe allotment books 1823–38 found at http://www.ballymoneyancestry.com 1825_tithe_applotment_books_ballymoney First Name: James Surname: Halliday Townland: Garryduff 1825_tithe_applotment_books_ballymoney First Name: Andrew Surname: Halliday Townland: Garryduff 1825_tithe_applotment_books_ballymoney First Name: Robert Surname: Halliday Townland: Garryduff 1825_tithe_applotment_books_ballymoney First Name: William Surname: Halliday Townland: Garryduff Note: In 1823 the Tithe Applotment Act was passed, which stipulated that henceforth all tithes due to the Established Church were to be paid in money rather than in kind, as they previously could have been. The tithe was not a tax but a charge upon land. These records are not, as far as I know, on-line and are kept at PRONI. Information recorded was as follows: name of the occupier name of the townland acreage classification of land (4 classes) amount of the tithe areas not subject to the tithe landlords’ names You indicated that you could not link Mary to any of the Halliday's in the 1851 Census, neither can I, but there are some similarities to consider: "She also had an Uncle Robert [Halliday] who was dead by 1839, his widow was alive and had 6 children, all married except two" 53 Garryduff Townland, Ballymoney County Antrim (1851) Ellen Halidy, Head, Widow, 66, married 1806, Read, b. My 3 x great Grandmother was Mary HALLIDAY born about 1787 based on her age [ 64] when she died in 1851 in Chelsea, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. According to family, Mary " ran away at the age of 16 and married Paul GILLMORE/GILMORE, who had been married previously and had 2 sons. James and John GILLMORE. Her family disowned her. Paul and Mary left Scotland to go to the United States but were shipwrecked off the coast of Liverpool, Nova Scotia. They settled in Lunenburg County Nova Scotia. When their log cabin was torn down a letter was found dated 22 April 1839, Garryduff, Ireland. It was written by her brother James HALLIDAY and from this letter is the following information about her family in Garryduff" James HALLIDAY her brother had a wife named Mary and a son Robert HALLIDAY who on 23 April 1839 left Garryduff carrying the letter. Mary's mother was still alive in 1839 but her name is not given. She had an uncle Andrew[ Halliday] who had 6 children in 1839, two of whom were married. She also had an Uncle Robert [Halliday]who was dead by 1839, his widow was alive and had 6 children, all married except two. Her Uncle William [Halliday] had 5 motherless children. There is also a Nancy GILMORE/GILLMORE and family mentioned in this one lone letter. I have found several HALLIDAY families in Garryduff in the 1851 census, but am unable at this point to link them to Mary. Is anyone on the list familiar with either the HALLIDAYS or GILLMORES? Mary [Halliday] GILMORE and husband Paul had 10 children: Andrew GILMORE;, Jane Henderson GILMORE; Thomas GILMORE; Mary Ellen GILMORE [ my 2x great grandmother;] Sarah GILMORE; Marjorie GILMORE;Matilda GILMORE; Paul GILMORE; Samuel GILMORE and Hannah GILMORE. Sadly Mary [Halliday] GILMORE never responded to the letter written by her brother in 1839. Would welcome any advice as to where to look for baptisms for the 1787 time frame for Garryduff. I realize the information is scant but I am hopeful that the HALLIDAY and or GILLMORE name might be known by someone on this list. Thank you for any assistance you can give. Marge [Howes] Perry

    3. Good Day All , Page 1 of 1 Note : Print to read if format lost. Last Updated 7 / 08 Hope this post finds things going well. Daniel McKENZIE b.c. 1820 Scotland, m.c. 1846 Ballymoney ? and d.c. 1871 Ireland. All b., m. & death records obtained from available US census, vital & immigration / ship records. Need help to find all Daniel's vitals, m. c. 1840-46 Margaret Miller. Daug. Eliz. b. 6 / 1847, never m., to Boston 1895, residence given as Ballymoney only and assume the Market Town, Co. Antrim / NE Derry. Son John b. 8 / 1848 . . . to Boston 1872 via Can. 1871 & walked over US border to Boston. Need oversea lookups (Scot & Ire) for Ballymoney church records rather than vitals. Now retired and on a limited budget with new records becoming available each mo., yr. etc. Church records appear to be the most likely solid source. Ire census, Griffiths, vitals have not lead to any findings, so far. In the US, since 1874, the entire family and decedents have been Catholic. Protestant and Catholic church records are likely to be the most fruitful searches for Ire and Scot. Lookups or tips via specific directions at low cost or "free" are always needed. Any help greatly appreciated. 1. [IRL-ANTRIM] STEWARTs, Portglenone, Ahogill Parish
    2. Alice
    3. Hello Listers, I have recently learned that my GrGrGrandfather, Jacob STEWART's family lived in Portglenone, Ahogill Parish of County Antrim. Jacob Stewart had many brothers who were horse jockeys in Ireland. I believe the family were Church of Ireland in Ireland. Jacob Stewart married Margaret GAMBLE (born County Tyrone) in Ireland and they and their children, Robert; ElizaJane; Martha and Margaret Ann came to Ontario, Canada in 1840. Son Thomas was born in Ontario in 1844. Where could I find a townland map for Ahogill Parish? Also, where would I find the name and address of the Church of Ireland in the Portglenone area? Any help/suggestions will be very much appreciated. Thanks for your time. Alice

    1. [IRL-ANTRIM] Carrickfergus or Belfast Streets?
    2. LORILEE/UN ALI
    3. I am wondering about the location of two streets recorded on an 1863 marriage record for Joymount Presbyterian Church, Carrickfergus. The couple, William Bradford of Lynden Park and Elizabeth McGookan of Duncrew Road were married May 15th. I assumed they were in Carrickfergus, but cannot find information on them. There were similar but not exact names for these streets in Belfast in this time period. Would anyone be familiar with either one? Lorilee Ali, Ontario, Canada
