    1. [IRL-ANTRIM] BOYLE - ANTRIM
    2. Rob.53044
    3. Hello List, William Boyle was aged 17 in 1844 when he enlisted in the 89th Regiment. He gave his home place as being BALLYMENA. I believe this man married a relative of mine. The marriage took place in Callan, County Kilkenny, in 1852. William was 25 and his young wife, Bridget RYAN, was aged 18. Her home was in Green Street. Fairly soon the 89th Regiment was in the Crimea. William survived and was almost on his way to NZ when unexpected orders diverted the 89th to India. In the course of fighting the rebels during The Mutiny, in an out-of-the-way place in Gujarat, William BOYLE was killed. This was December 1858. William and Bridget Boyle had been married for only six years. I am hoping to find some descendants of this couple. There is every likelihood that Bridget would have accompanied her husband. As a young widow, however, Bridget might have made a home in the area of her husband's home town which I am taking to be Ballymena for the time being. (It is possible that LISBURN might be connected). Is there anybody who might be able to help in finding the children of William Boyle and Bridget Ryan? Who could suggest how I might look further for such children? Can anybody help in finding a Bridget BOYLE who maybe remarried 1859-1885 at which latter date Bridget would have been 50 yrs of age? Does anyone own to being a descendant!!?? Any ideas, input, welcome. Kind regards, Rob in Lincolnshire

    3. It is my pleasure to announce that the complete 1864 Ireland Birth Index is now online at the Ireland GenWeb website at: http://www.irelandgenweb.com/ We had much help with this project which enabled us to complete it in a record four months. Here are the good people who took time out of their busy lives to help others by transcribing pages: Rosemary Cairns, Bill Roberge, Jan MacMillan, Joy Burgos, Bob McConihe, Ronnie Lorentz, Ellen Ahrens, Eileen Redman, Diane Culhane, Kathy Snowberger, Jim Cox, Jim Buckley, Patricia McGill, Colleen McNamara, Rita Meistrel, Bill King, Margaret Minoughan, Eileen Sullivan, James Sullivan, MaryPat Carey, Candi Zizek, Maggie Lambert, Mary Devlin, Kelly Anne Binari, Judie Mason, Mary Mizzi, Dan Doherty, Nora Fitzgerald and David Collins. The volunteers came from all over the world, many from Australia and Canada, some from England, one from Croatia and many from the USA. It was great talking to all of you. Other new updates on the site include the Surname Registries and DataBank plus new Special Projects. Wanted: We need coordinators for the following counties: Carlow, Longford, Laois, Meath, Westmeath and Waterford. If you have knowledge of how to make webpages plus an interest in the county, contact me off list. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com

I have only been able to find snippets of info so far, except for the son who emigrated to Qld. I am also interested in the McNEILLs of Gardenvale, Stranocum near Ballmoney. 3. I have not run across these people but I have just started to explore Short/Shortts in Antrim. It is a daunting task. I have been actively researching in Ireland for about 8 years. I have a web site with some of my Irish Short/Shortt research http://publish.uwo.ca/~bgordon/ and my data base on http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~cotyroneireland/surnames/short.html There you can get an idea of where I have looked. I have just checked out the householders index for you on PRONI but nothing. Leaving in 1851 is too early to find these people in Griffith's Valuation which starts about 1858 and ends about 1862. Irish vita stats begin in 1845 for Protestant marriages, fathers of couple named as well their abode and profession. In 1863 which is too late for you unless some of the family remained behind all births, marriages and deaths of Protestant and Catholics began. During the early years after 1863 registration was slow. I would think that carpet weavers would hang out in Belfast. Half of Belfast is in Antrim and half in Down. Have a look at my two sites and then get back to me if you have any questions. I'll think on this to see if I can come up with anything. I am shortly going to join the Ulster Historical Foundation so I can use their data bases. They have a section called "History from Headstones" and in Antrim I found the following: Graveyard Name Civil Parish Town / Townland Surname Inscription Map Milltown Shankill Belfast SHORT Milltown Shankill Belfast SHORTSINGER, BERINGER On http://www.irishgenealogy.ie/gravestones/index.cfm I found: This is the only one early enough for you: Purchase Full Inscription 7314 JOHN SHORT 1837 DUNLUCE ANTRIM Purchase Full Inscription with Map of Cemetery All for now Margaret Gordon On 30-Aug-08, at 8:14 AM, Al S wrote: > Hi!
