Dear All on the list, I've been researching my Irish Ancestors in Australia and am needing some new thoughts or hints, hence my email. Until recently, I thought my GG Grandfather was James Oliver born in Crum(b)lin, Antrim, Ireland in about 1847. BUT, He has turned out to be far more complicated. His real name is James Oliver Bryans - unfortunately I can't find his arrival in Australia but according to his death certificate, he would have arrived in Australia about 1865 age 17. I found a brother who arrived in January 1863 - who used the name William Oliver Bryans - they don't seem to have been in contact. I'm a bit confused why my GG would have dropped the Bryans from his name. Could this be because he was just called James Oliver - and it stuck?...I've heard it is an Irish "custom" or trend to call people by their first two names. Is this a possibility? Of course he may have just been hiding and didn't want anyone to know his real name. How difficult is it to access Church Records for baptism or christening records? His parents were William Bryans and Mary Coburn according to his marriage certificate. He married Church of England in Australia, so I am unsure of his religion...his brother married in an Anglican church. Look forward to reading your thoughts. He has been a tricky character! Any help or thoughts will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in anticipation. Su Start your day with Yahoo!7 and win a Sony Bravia TV. I need a lesson on researching in Belfast as I've found some information on the family and would like to continue while I'm on a roll. From the IGI I have film numbers for births such as 101090 101135 101160 and 101190. Do these films show parents names, maybe occupations like one finds on the films for English records or do they give a reference number for ordering certificates? Also there is a marriage in 1857 but no film number because it'e a patron submission. Would this be available on film or do I need to order the certificate? Also are there films for baptisms pre 1864? On ancestryireland I found a baptism for 1827 but I don't know if there is a film for this or similar records. regards Barbara

Thanks Chris I didn't find a will on either site but I did find a baptism on the ancestryireland - very pleasant surprise as I didn't expect to find this particular person's baptism. If you go to google.co.uk, click on maps, type kingsmoss rd (Kingsmoss Road) in the box you will find the area where Kings Moss is located. It is really only a hamlet with a few houses so Kings Moss is perhaps only a townland. Hello Terence The information regarding King's Moss comes from a genealogist in the Belfast area who is believed to have found a birthplace of "King's Moss" for my great-grandfather, James Irvine, born in 1846. His parents married in Carnmoney Parish (Presbyterian) Church in 1844. James and his sisters (Margaret, Catharine, Gertrude) and brother, Samuel, all emigrated to the Philadelphia area in the mid-to late 1800's. James was a coachman by trade. Are you saying that Stanley Irvine was from King's Moss? At this point, my family and I are hopeful and thankful for any and all clues as to our "homeplace" and kin. Hi to all on the list I read with excitement yesterday the emails between Barbara and Mike Boyd of Brisbane, AUS, in relation to these Obituaries. Can I ask for contact details (snail or email) so I can get in touch with the Newspaper Library in relation to finding an OBIT in relation to my GG Grandfather Hugh McCAMBRIDGE. He was entombed whilst building the railway in Co Antrim but details as to where are sketchy. His son ran to tell his mother the sad news - apparently father and son both worked to build the railway. Some notes on my family show that an Alexander LAUGHLIN born about 1815 married a Grayzetta DOUGLAS. The notes also show that the couple had three children: Anna, Agnes, and Henry. If these names look familiar to anyone I would like to hear from you. I do not know who wrote the notes or their source of information on the wife's name. According to the notes, Alexander was the oldest child of Thomas Laughlin and Agnes (Nancy) Clark. There were 11 other children all of whom migrated to Canada/US or were born there. I have considerable information on much of the family that emigrated but have not found a lead on Alexander. I am not new to genealogy but am new to Ireland sources and records. Any tidbits will be appreciated. IAnne in Aurora IL USA **************Life should be easier. So should your homepage. Try the NEW AOL.com. Following a family story regarding a relative Sir Charles BRETT I have found a marriage between Margaret NEILL (My father's great aunt) and Charles Henry BRETT. Charles and Margaret had at least 5 chn - 2 daughters - names unknown and 3 sons - Charles Wills 1864 (died age 2) Alfred Edward 1865 and George Henry 1871. Charles Brett was a solicitor in Belfast - L'Estrange & Brett - and later generations have followed in his footsteps. It would be great to make contact with others researching this family. regards Barbara Perth Australia
I would like to know if there is a way to search for wills for Ireland around 1890. Hopefully there is an online source or films that I can order. regards Barbara Perth Australia
I paid to join the Ulster Historical Foundation and was told that I would receive a password, but so far I have not. Has anyone else had better luck. I joined in October. Ann Lackey
