    1. [IRL-ANTRIM] Brigan, Breakins, Braddin and Quin
    2. I Trumpour
    3. Isaac and Mary BRIGAN are first found in Holytown, Lanark, Scotland in 1851. Isaac was born about 1793 and Mary QUIN about 1800, both in Antrim. Their son John was born about 1832 in Achagalon parish, Antrim. He married in the Catholic church. Their daughter Elizabeth was born in 1838 in Belfast, but that could have been the place easiest to name, and she was married in the Church of Scotland. Mary's parents were Charles QUIN (a mason) and Catherine BELL. Isaac's parents were John BRIGGINS and Mary HUTCHISON. Are these names familiar to anyone? Is there any possibility of finding these people in Antrim? There are so many spellings of Brigan - Bragan, Briggans, Breakins, Braddin, to name a few. Also Quin is sometimes Queen. I plan to visit Ireland soon. Any suggestions about what to see in Achagalon parish? Thanks for any suggestions. Ivy in Canada

    2. Linda Holley
    3. Pat, About a year ago I paid for a Pensear record for a James Burnside. He gave quite a few details about where he might have been living in 1851. Apparently his parents were either dead or unable to care to him. The Davidsons forenames mentioned are William, Edward, John, Nancy, and George. I realize the surname is spelled differently but in case you would like a copy of the document - just let me know. It gives the areas where they lived in Antrim as Galgorm Parks, Ahoghill, and Ballyclosh. They sailed out of Belfast and arrived in Charleston, South Carolina, November 20, 1820. My information is from the passenger listing of "Jane". I have a birth date of 1796 for David and 1798 for Rachel. The records also indicate one child on board with them, maybe David, Jr. or Thomas. 1. [IRL-ANTRIM] STERNE FAMILY RESEARCH
    2. Joyce
    3. I have recently found a couple of family announcements in The Irish Times, which leads me to believe that members of my STERNE research lived in Larne around 1940s. Firstly I have found the death announcement of an ELLEN STERNE late of Arklow, Co.Wicklow, wife of Richard J. Sterne died 12 May 1942. Her address was Bridge House Larne. The second announcement was a marriage that took place in Blackpool of WILLIAM STERNE son of Mr. and the late Mrs. R.J.Sterne, Bridge House, Larne, on 13 June 1942. If anyone knows anything further on this family I would love to hear from them, or from anyone who has access to local papers which may carry further information. With thanks Joyce Dublin.

If Sam Henry in his book of 1941 is to be believied, this Hugh Boyd's ancestors came from Carrick region of Ayrshire. The only known Boyds from there are the Boyds of Penkill, just outside of Girvan, who had their own Arms. 3. Anne My understanding is that Hugh Boyd's family came from Mount Edwards, Cushendell (about 1 km south of Cushendell). So if his wife, Margaret Rowan, was the sister of the Minister, it may explain why his family is buried in Clough and not Cushendell. >From your data it would seem that Captain Hugh had two sons called Samuel One born in 1718 and the second in 1720. I believe Margaret Rowan was the sister to Rev. Rowan of Clough Church. His account book is at PRONI. Someplace I have a link to a tree for Rev. Rowan but can't find it at the moment. I find the tombstone very hard to figure out who is a son of whom.  But I think you are correct.   Anne Shier Klintworth Check out my genealogy blog at http://genealogygirl.wordpress.com/ ----- Original Message ---- > From: Mike Boyd <[email protected]> > To: [email protected] > Sent: Mon, February 15, 2010 12:56:03 AM > Subject: Re: [IRL-ANTRIM] Captain Hugh Boyd (died 1731) and Margaret Rowan -both buried old Dunaghy graveyard, Clough > > Anne My understanding is that Hugh Boyd's family came from Mount Edwards, > Cushendell (about 1 km south of Cushendell).  So if his wife,  > Margaret Rowan, was the sister of the Minister, it may explain why his > family is buried in Clough and not Cushendell. >From your data it > would seem that Captain Hugh had two sons called Samuel One born in 1718 > and the second in 1720.  Or am I reading this wrongly?+ Mike > Boyd Historical Committee House of Boyd Society ----- Original > Message ----- From: "Anne Klintworth" <> ymailto="mailto:[email protected]" > href="mailto:[email protected]">[email protected]> To: <> ymailto="mailto:[email protected]" > href="mailto:[email protected]">[email protected]> Sent: > Sunday, February 14, 2010 11:00 PM Subject: Re: [IRL-ANTRIM] Captain Hugh > Boyd (died 1731) and Margaret Rowan -both buried old Dunaghy graveyard, > Clough This is the full transcription of the > stone. 3. Rich It is page 292 and I have a copy sitting beside my key board at present. I have not compared the birth dates, but form the look of it would appear to be the next generation. So I am now not sure who has got confused with dates I saw this grave in either 2007 or 2008 and will have to find the right note book to check what I wrote down form the grave. 1. [IRL-ANTRIM] Captain Hugh Boyd (died 1731) and Margaret Rowan - both buried old Dunaghy graveyard, Clough
    2. Mike Boyd
    3. In the book The Story of St. Patrick's Church, Coleraine, Its History, Heraldry, Sculptured Stones, Stained Glass, Old Families and Alliances, Architecture and Traditions, Sam Henry, about 1941, pait has:- "Other Boyds (apart from the Ballycastle branch, whose story would take too long and who are not immediate relatives (a) of the Route family) are found at Clough. In Dunaghy old graveyard there is a headstone, enclosed by a wall, which bears Boyd Arms and reads: Underneath the chancel of the adjoining church church lie the remains of Captain Hugh Boyd, who departed this life 8th March 1731, aged 75; also Margaret Rowan, his wife, who died March 1717, aged 66; also their son Samuel, who died September 1745, aged 45; and their grandson, who died in 1777." Do any member so this list know of any other children to this couple? I estimate that they were married early 1680's and with Samuel Boyd being born in about 1700, this would make him about their 7 to 10 child. Thank you Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS
