    2. Vincent Walsh
    3. Kathleen, St. Vincent's Home data can be found on a Google search. I lived in Brooklyn (born in Red Hook) from 1823 to 1886. All the policemen on NYPD were "Irish" ncluding my uncle, Thomas Francis Walsh. I suggest you obtain a map of Brooklyn (address below). The NY State location is Bolton Landing on Lake George ( spent many summers there with my wife and children). 89th Street is in the Bay Ridge Section of Brooklyn. Fort Hamilton Avenue is now Fort Hamilton Parkway. I am trying to learn a LOT more about my family-- Thank you in advance for any help and if I can be of assistance, please ask. > > My father was raised in St. Vincent's orphanage, along with two of his brothers. My Dad entered the orphanage at the age of 7 when his mother died. His father was a NY policeman at the time and felt he couldn't handle 6 children. The girls and youngest son went to live with family and/or friends. He left the orpanage when he was 16, entering the Air Force. His name is Edwin Allen "Allen" O'Donnell. His brothers Eugene and Kenny also lived at St. Vincents. Kenny spent much of his time in the hospital. In the service my Dad got the nickname "OD". He was in the AF for 20 years, then taught college for 25 years. > > I want to learn more about the orphanage, how my father grew up, see if there were census records, other records on my Dad. My Dad was born in 1931 in Brooklyn. > > One of the things my Dad loved was the movies- ""I must admit that when I was a boy, and a young man, I was a true movie "buff"... every weekend when I had a few nickels and the time, > I was in the local movie house! It was called the Boro Hall Theater; in the Borough Hall section of Brooklyn, New York. And my heroes ---- Jimmy Cagney, Bette Davis, > Spencer Tracy, Lana Turner, and on and on and on. The great movies > were the one's that had Cagney as the good guy, and Bogart as the bad guy!" Do any of you know where I could find a picture of the theatre?? I am not sure I spelled it right. > > My grandfather Lester A. O'D was born in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn, but I don't know which street. Sometime after he retired from the NYPD he moved to Yonkers. He also worked for Lake George Camping Company, Dolton Landing. Do you know where that is? I know he had a home in the Catskills as well, more of a cabin with no running water or electricity. > > I know my great grandfather, James J. was born on Presidents Street. Do you know which part of Brooklyn that is in? His first wife Mary Harriagan (my great grandmother died on "216 Hoyt Street, a tenement in Brooklyn") as a very young woman as well, four days after childbirth. James died on his way home from work. He and his second wife Charlotte lived at - 265 89th Street in Brooklyn. Charlotte was Isabell's mother. > > Mother and daughter married Father and son- This confused me for years when I was young. It was James and Charlotte second marriages. > > For a short while Lester and Isabell lived in Queens, as this is where my Dad's mother died, on Colfax Street. > > My great grand grandparents Michael and Mary Dineen O'Donnell lived on Whitehall Street according to his naturalization papers. I am told Whitehall is in Brooklyn?? > > I do have some pictures of the family if any on the list might be related or interested. According to family lore Michael and Mary came with family- brothers and sisters. Mary had 7 children and two lived. Some family said that some of the children died on the way over. This is confirmed by a census and I must admit it really surprised me to find it. > _______________________________________ > > The 1900 census, Brooklyn, Ward 29, Ft Hamilton Ave in NY has the following > entry: > Eli A.
