Hi Kathleen, Red Hook is a section of Brookllyn. It lies along the western side of Brooklyn, along the East River. There's a part of it that curves out into the River and resembles a hook. Hence the name. My father once said that there was a section known as White Hook. Has anyone ever heard of it? Tracy Tracy - besiddes being shaped like a hook Red Hook was also made up of mostly red clay. I never heard anyone mention White Hook, but I did hear that Bay Ridge was once known as Yellow Hook and the name was changed after the outbreak of yellow fever, don't know if it is a true story or not but it sounds good.
