Hi, You can get a copy of the business incorporation papers from the City of NY. Every business had to have these. I think it's a $25 fee to get it. Let me know how you make out. To: irish-new-york-city@rootsweb.com Message-ID: <582521.58013.qm@web32506.mail.mud.yahoo.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii I have used burial records and obituaries to confirm that my grandfather's uncle, Patrick J. Collins, owned the Lincoln Garage & Sales Co., Inc., which was located at 205 East 38th Street. I'd like to see if anyone knows of sources for details on a defunct business, any source of insight into the garage and auto sales professions in NYC, or ways of finding ads for old businesses like this one [Patrick came to the US from Ireland in 1892: where would a fairly recent immigrant have advertised his business?]. The 1915, -16, -17, and -25 NYC directories on Ancestry.com list Patrick as the president, and most list his wife Julia as the VP and their daughter Anna as the secretary [in 1915 there is a partner, JJ Rogers, but his name is never mentioned after that]. In the 1931 directory, the family's residence is still listed, but not the business. Also, if anyone has knowledge of or access to earlier NYC directories, I'd like to see when the business is first listed and when Patrick Collins' name begins to be associated with it.
