I don't think that it was intentional just a misinterpretation of the question of the question being asked. If you asked me "where do you come from?" I could reply "Stirling, in Scotland" because that is where I live, but, equally I could reply "Belfast, N Ireland" because that is where I was born. Your ancestors could well have been telling the truth when they answered Cork, Leitrim or Antrim depending on what they thought they were answering. Good luck in finding where they were born.
