Sorry, don't have the directory, but only a suggestion that you also check a little before and after that date. From what I understand, to compile those directories, people were paid to go door to door and record the info. Then, it was all compiled and went to press .... since this is before computers, etc., by the time the directory was published, the info contained in it could be close to a year old. If you're looking for 1883 info ... it could easily be in the 1884 directory. I tried to pin down the year a ggrandfather died, he was listed, as it turns out in the year he did die. The following year, it gave a listing for his wife, as his widow. It was easy, since they owned the house and didn't move ... just had to check the names. If your couple moved around a lot, they may even come up missing in the 1883 directory. That happened more than once to me, that's why I suggest you check more than the exact year you're interested in.

    3. Your Edward Hayden may have lived at that address in 1883, but that doesn't mean he was there in 1880. As for the 1883 directory, information for that year was collected in 1881/1882. Let's assume that the 1883 directory was distributed in February 1883. It may very well have been printed in August of 1882 - with a deadline on information to have been compiled several months earlier of that year. That collection of information may even have started in December of 1881. Mario
