    2. I found my "needle in a haystack" Edward Hayden in a copy of The Irish American. I thought I'd share the other obituaries that appeared that week: Irish American Newspaper Week Ending March 31, 1883 IRISH-AMERICAN OBITUARY DIED: AIKEN - March 19, in Brooklyn, Mary, the beloved wife of Thomas AIKEN, a native of Newmarket-on-fergus, county Clare, Ireland. The funeral of the lamented deceased took place on Wednesday, March 21, from St. Paul's Church, corner Court and Congress streets, where a Solemn Requiem Mass was offered for the repose of her soul. Her remains were interred in Holy Cross Cemetery. May she rest in peace. Amen. DUVAL - March 21, at the residence of his parents, 160 Carroll street, Brooklyn, Willim G., son of George and Kate DUVAL, aged 12 years. HALLORAN - March 20, at 188 East 80th street, NY, Patrick HALLORAN, a native of Corbally, county Clare, Irland, ages 36 years. HAYDEN - March 19, at 627 West 52nd street, NY, Edward HAYDEN, a native of Dublin, aged 38 years. HOPKINS - Feb 21, suddenly at Derby, Conn, Hugo, in the sistxh year of his age, son of Anthony and Bridget HOPKINS, and great-grandson of Patrick BYRNES, of Newton, Rathangan, county Kildare, Ireland. Irish papers please copy. KEELEY - At 757 Second ave, NY Patrick KEELEY, a native of the county Kilkenny, Ireland, age 55 years. ROWE - March 14, at 601 East Sixteenth street, NY, Thomas ROWE, a native of county Limerick, Ireland, aged 42 years.

    3. HI DEB Where can I find out obits for the Irish American. Both my MCDONALD g-grandparent died in NYC 1888, 1892 till now I didn't think any papers listed their obits. Thanks for any help. Some years ago I extracted a series of obituaries from The Irish-American newspaper....they are viewable at the URL below: http://www.nycgen.com/irishobits1.htm I accessed this newspaper (a weekly, by the way) at the New York Public Library on 42nd Street and Fifth Avenue......They have the paper on microfilm, but they do not participate in interlibrary loan......I believe that the New York State Library has some of the films for loan, however---not sure if they have the whole run, though... It should be noted that this newspaper seemed to "skip" posting obituaries for years at a time......that is what I recall, anyway......then, all of a sudden a bunch of obits would be published over a period of time. I have no idea why they followed this practice, but apparently they did! It's a tough paper to read, and the obits were often scattered in all different parts of the paper, so one really has to visually "scan" every page of an issue to make sure that nothing is missed...... Perhaps someday I will continue the project, if time ever permits........
