I received the following from a friend of mine. I checked and did, in fact, have the virus. When I searched my C:\ drive looking for jdbgmgr.exe, the file did not pop up, but when I searched looking for *.exe, I encountered a long list of .exe files and did find the virus there. I'm not sure if this is one of those cases in which all we are doing is deleting an unimportant file, but I don't think it is worth the possible disaster NOT to follow the instructions. Sorry for the bother... Rosie Hi. We just received a virus that affects our address book. Everyone in our address books has, in turn, been affected. We are sorry for the inconvenience this will cause you. The virus jdbgmgr.exe is NOT detected by Norton or McAfee anti-virus systems. It sits quietly for 14 days before damaging the system. It's sent automatically by the messenger and by the Address Book, whether or not you sent emails to your contacts. We were told to check to see if we received this virus, found it, and deleted it. Here's how to check for the virus and to get rid of it. DO THIS: 1 Go to Start; Find or Search option 2 In the files/folder option write the name jdbgmgr.exe 3 Be sure you search your C:drive 4 Click "find now" 5 The virus has a teddy bear icon with the name jdbgmgr.exe DO NOT OPEN IT!!! 6 Right click and delete it. It will then go into the Recycle Bin. 7 Go to the Recycle Bin and delete it there as well. 8 IF YOU FIND THE VIRUS, YOU MUST CONTACT ALL THE PEOPLE IN YOUR ADDRESS BOOK SO THEY CAN ERADICATE IT IN THEIR ADDRESS BOOKS!! We are so sorry about this!! It was sent to us and fortunately we jumped on it right away! Sisters at St. Agatha's
This is a HOAX. The file is part of running a Java script program on your computer. Do NOT delete it & Please check with ANY of the virus related websites. (like Norton or McAfee, etc. They have the info there as to exactly what that file is used for on your computer. DON'T delete the file. It is a windows file. This is a hoax. Please before posting this junk, make the effort to check out one of the hoax sites. For not taking a few extra minutes to check these out before posting,YOU can seriously ruin a fellow listers computer!! There is a reason why you do not post these to the list, but to the list owner...so THEY can take the minute to see if it is real or a hoax. I hope this doesn't cause as much grief as it did on other lists!
