Dorothy and List, I have dealt with Calvary numerous times, mostly receiving the info I requested. But their are two cases that I have that leave more questions like yours. 1) I have the death certificate of my ggaunts first husband, John Fitsimmons, died March 6, 1860, which states he was buried in Calvary. Calvary says that they cannot find him. His wife's second husband, their son, her mother, sister and a small baby (still not sure of his connection) are buried in Calvary in one plot. I cannot find where the wife (Rose McNally Fitsimmons Healy) is buried. I believe she may be buried with her first husband. Where? Only God and she knows! (Have checked death index- but not sure of date of her death) 2) I have a listing of a family plot where there are 9 people buried in it, from 1881 to 1965. When I visited Calvary, and searched for the plot, I only found a one-width plot, no headstone. Wasn't sure if I found the right one, a nice worker at the cemetery helped, and yes, it was the right plot. My question to the people at the office was - 'how could 9 people be buried in a one-width plot?" There answer, buried on top of each other! Now, I don't believe that for one minute. The plot on the left was an old plot, the plot on the right was a newer one, more recent deaths. I have checked that plot (got the interment record) and they are not related to anyone that we know of. My father's cousins' theory (a resident of Queens) is that Cemetery's are allowed to resell the plots if there has been no burials in the past 100 years. Now, obviously the second plot had a burial in 1965, but the previous date of a burial was 1941. Bottom line, I believe both plots were resold, and the records from the previous plots destroyed. Can't prove any of it. Just my theory. Marge Duffy Virgulak De nobis fabula narratur, their story is our story Genealogy: Where you confuse the dead and irritate the living.
