Is anyone on the List san expert on voting rules. I had once looked up the record of an Irish immigrant for 1871 or thereabouts. I had his address in Manhattan and after finding the right book ( microfilm ) I found his name on a voting register. To the right was written the date and court house where he was naturalized. It seemed that everyone in this particular book had been naturalized so I assume there were two records: one for native-borns and one for aliens. I have not checked other records for other years, but I am wondering if this was the procedure for other towns and other states. Anyone know? Of course once I got a copy of this immigrant's naturalizaton papers I did not get all the information I was hoping for because in those days they did not give the date of immigration.
