    1. RE: [IRISH-NYC] Availability of Records

    3. Hi Joy, I have been emailing several people back and forth about the Emigrant Savings Bank Records of NYC. The Emigrant Savings Bank was established in NYC about 1850 by Irish emigrants for emigrants. What makes the records special is that test deposit accounts were set up, since many of the people depositing money could not read and write. On the account information was listed such information as the person's address in NYC, family members names, what ship they came to America on, when they emigrated, their age, where they were from in Ireland, Germany, whereever. Now to the email below. There are very few places you can veiw these records. The test deposit account records have been microfilmed for the years 1850 - 1880. If you have access to NYPL then you are in luck. There are 7 other libraries that I know of that also have the collection. Let me know if you want the list. Other options are to hire someone to research for you or to purchase the microfilm for $25 a roll. Listed below in Mario's email is the phone number for requesting a form to fill out to purchase the microfilm.
