That's not entirely true. And certainly not true that it is limited to Manhattan. Although the bulk of the immigrants were from the NYC area (the whole current-day area including CT and NJ), there are entries for people as far away as Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, etc. It is also untrue that it was soley Irish. Yes, predominantly, but not exclusively. As many women (if not more it sometimes seems!) as men as well. Remember that one of the primary functions of the bank was money transfers back to Ireland. It was one of the few banks that did this regularly and successfully and was trusted by the Irish because it was founded and run by Irish. The indexes are: Reels 1-3 (although #3 is not all that useful because most of the corresponding account records are lost) Reels 1 & 2 cover 1850-1877. The Test books are: Reels 4-10, covering years 1850-1868 The Transfer, Signature and Test Books are: Reels 11-14, covering years 1850-1883 with vols. 4&5 (13 Sep 1877-5 Jul 1881) completely missing. The Deposit Account Ledgers are: Reels 15-20, covering accounts #s 1-18,000 ONLY (1850-abt 1857) Hope this clears some things up. Best regards. Nancy. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Elizabeth V. It should be added that the Deposit Accounts Ledgers have no value to genealogists.
