Walter J. ROE was a bootmaker who was born in Dublin, Ireland c.1807. He arrived in the New York City area in 1826 with his wife Elizabeth HOLMES ROE who was born in Dublin c. 1807 and their daughter Mary E. ROE who was born in Dublin on 27 May 1821. Mary E. Roe m. Lt. John HILL who was born in Ogden, New York in 1817. The Marriage took place at St. Marys Church in NYC five days after the groom was mustered out of the 2nd New York Volunteers in August of 1849. They sold his Bounty Land Warrant and arrived in San Francisco at the end of 1849. Elizabeth C. ROE was born on 3 June 1836 in Brooklyn. She married M. J. WRIGHT. Other children were Amelia ROE born c.1839 and John ROE born c.1841. They were probably born in Brooklyn as the family was still living in Brooklyn at 222 Atlantic when they were enumerated for the 1860 census. Ken Davis Belmont, CA
