We've had approximately 150 new subscribers to this list in the last month. We thought now would be a good time to ask for a roll call. Please take the opportunity to post your family lines to the list. Be sure to include approximate dates and locations, if you know them. Don't forget those brick walls! The only thing we ask is that you put the surname in the subject line of your email, rather than 'roll call.' Many people read their email based on the subject line and are apt to delete those with the subject line of 'roll call.' Wishing everyone luck! Take care, Jim & Tracy IRISH-NEW-YORK-CITY list admins

I am fairly new to this list. Here is the family I am researching: Thomas H Carroll b abt 1822 Ireland. m Anna Murphy b abt. 1830 Ireland. children: Catherine A b. 12/22/1849 NYC d. 1915 Evansville, IN Thomas b abt 1853 NYC d. 1926 Evansville, IN There is probably more children to them but I can not find them in the 1860 Census. In 1850 they were in NYC Ward 16 Dist. 2. The other problem is also Catherine's birth. I have a paper indicated she was born 1849. Her death record indicates 1850, Her marriages (2) along with census indicates 1852. So the parents above in the 1850 census could be wrong....but it is the only one found that matches completely with the fact she is listed 7/12 months old and that goes with Dec. 1849. If anyone can find them in the 1860 that would be great. So far I haven't. Thanks. Regina Finan

James Reynolds from County Longford to NYC Edward Reynolds, NYC Emma Reilly Reynolds, NYC William McCloy, Newburgh, NY Susan Fagan McCloy, Newburgh, NY John Shea from Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada Margaret Healy Shea, Saint John, NB, Canada
Roll call: Jerry (Jeremiah?) Moloney arrived in NYC before 1830, married Charlotte Wardelien about 1830, died about 1832. He was a smith of some sort. His name is on a family marker in Evergreens Cemetery but I don't know where he's buried. John Fitzgerald, from the city of Cork, arrived in NYC in 1847. He married Bridget Rieley about 1852. They lived for many years on Front St. John died in 1910. He was a caulker all his life. Buried Calvary. Bridget Rieley, from County Cavan, arrived in NYC in 1846. She married John Fitzgerald (see above). They had 5 or 6 daughters, no sons. Calvary. Thomas Leonard gave his age as 28 when he enlisted in 1861 and his birthplace as Kilkenny. He married Margaret Lennon about 1852 and they had 6 or 7 children. Tom was wounded in the Civil War and collected a pension until his death in New Haven, CT, in 1878. I have never found his burial place. Margaret Lennon came to NYC about 1846 at the age of 16 with "a spinning wheel and a rocking chair," unlikely implements for a teenage girl. She married Thomas Leonard about 1852 and remained in NYC after he left her in 1872. She died in 1914. Her mother was a Comiskey; her cousin was Peter Bannon, the Trappist monk, who lived and died at Gethsemane, KY. Calvary. Michael and Sarah Jane (Purcell) Kehoe came to NYC with several children about 1852. They had at least 5 more children after arrival. Michael was a tailor and practiced his trade until his death in 1879. Sarah Jane died in 1883. Both Calvary. John Francis McGrath was born NYC in 1885. His parents' names were allegedly Thomas and Mary. Thomas was a grocer. John was placed in an orphanage when his mother died about 1890. John died in 1912, age 27. John is my worst brick wall. I found him in the 1900 census as a 14 year old printer at the Mt. Loretto home on Lafayette St. but nothing earlier.
