I had an uncle who lived in Brooklyn, contracted TB in 1920 and was sent to the Trudeau Sanitarium in Saranac Lake, NY. The sanitarium opened in 1884 and closed in 1954. The property was purchased by the American Management Association. Hi Everybody: This is my first time on this List. Looking for some direction in attempting locate records from a Roman Catholic Church which was prob attended by my maternal side great-grandparents. Found this family listed as McDonnel, Bernd and Catherine in the 1870 US CEN of NYC in the 12th Ward, 12 E.D., NY, NY on Page 53 (Ancestry). The correct sp of his entire name is actually Bernard McDonnell, however, it's listed on the 1870 CEN as McDonnel, Bernd.Their chil were listed as Mary A., age 6, Catherine, age 2, and Lizzie, age 9 months. Both parents, age 30 (1840) b. in IRE. Kids all b. in NY. Also found them in the NY Emigrant Savings Bank Database with a transaction date of 8 OCT 1867 under Acc't # 61622 bearing the names Catherine McDonnell and Bernard McDonnell. At that time, their home address was given as "119th Street - Harlem." I'm not that well versed with the boroughs of NYC, however, I believe that this area would today be considered as being within the Bronx (???). My problem here is attempting to locate as nearby R.C. Parish in operation during the period of 1867-1870 in an attempt to find sacrament documents (Church Records) for this family. It is doubtful that the same church remains in that area, but the Parish might have consolidated with a Church still in the general area today. Appreciate any ideas on this matter. Thanks in advance. Mike Whelan - CT.

My own grandmother, Filomena M.(Kupecz) Walla, herself died of TB in a sanitorium in Chenango, Broome County, (near Binghampton, NY) in 1939. In a message dated 3/7/2008 9:59:38 A.M. Does anyone have any idea where someone with TB, about 1915, might have been sent "to the country for a cure"? Helen Quinn Wilson - death bed marriage, so the story goes, died about Jun 1917. She is buried in Cemetery of the Holy Cross, in Brooklyn, with her parents, but I don't know where she died, or was married, or to whom, other than Wilson. If I knew where to look for a TB sanitarium/hospital, "in the country", I might be able to find the rest of the desired data. Thanks Georgia
