Greetings All. By way of introduction, let me tell you that I am a leader of the campaign to regain public access to Post 1901 Census records in Canada. Some of you may already be familiar with me from other mail lists to which I post. I have been invited by the administrator of this genealogy mail list to occasionaly post messages relating to our campaign to the list. The purpose in doing so is two-fold. First, to inform listers about the situation and what is being done to resolve it; and Second, to enlist your help in resolving the problem. You may also see occasional postings from others involved in our campaign. Unless we are successful in making necessary changes, we will NEVER see another Census of Canada made available for public access. While this list is predominately used by US citizens, many of you will have ancestral roots in Canada, and so would have use for our Census records. If you see our postings on other lists to which you subscribe and feel you see them enough, I would ask you to have a little patience with us and use your delete key. My posts will normally show "Post 1901 Census" at the start of the subject line to make it easy for you to pass over, or delete without viewing. If you wish to respond to me about any of my postings I would ask that you do so to both the list, and to myself directly. With the number of lists to which I subscribe I may not always see a message posted only to the list. Any message that I post relating to our campaign may be forwarded without notice to me. For those not familiar with the issue, and what we are trying to accomplish, I invite you to visit the Post 1901 Census Project website at the URL following my signature. You will find a great deal of information there. I thank you all for your interest, and for your support. Happy Hunting. Gordon A. My grandmother Beatrice THOMPSON arrived at Ellis Island from Belfast in 1920, followed by her mother and sister in 1922 (Annie THOMPSON and Roberta THOMPSON) They were to join their father/husband Robert THOMPSON, his address was listed as 196 Bay Street, Tompkinsville, Staten Island. I can find no trace of him although I have followed Beatrice, who married James Prassie Morgan, divorced, then married Eddie Feldkamp; and Roberta who married Jack Sheehan and had a daughter Heather. Ring any bells for anyone? Bonnie Morgan blueskynet@earthlink.net

Betty Lou You recently posted this comment on the list: "My Irish Catholic Ancestors lived in Harrison, NJ. Harrison is very close to NYC. They are buried in: Holy Sepulchre Cemetery" In a previous posting, you indicated that your family research includes the FAGAN surname. We too are researching FAGAN for our ancestors from Harrison especially LEONARD and HILL. We learned of this possible connection from burial records at Holy Sepulchre. Perhaps we can each fill in some holes in our research. Dan & Dolores Christy Researching CAREY, CHRISTY, FAGAN, GREGORY, HANLEY, HILL, JOHNSTON, KEENOY, LEONARD, MULLIN KULESA, WAWAK
There is also a Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in East Orange, NJ near the city line with Newark. My ancestors emigrated to NYC in the early 1880's but by the early 1900s, they were in Newark, NJ. There was a large Irish population in the area known as the Ironbound. A good source of info on this area is www.virtualnewarknj.com. Hi, The records for this cemetery have been filmed by the FHC. They are on index cards and sometimes will contain the place of birth, cause of death, place of death and the owner of the plot. In some instances however, there is only the date of burial, and name of the undertaker. I knew the date of my husband's father's death, but when I went into the records I found other family members, as well as, some in-laws. The film numbers can be found on: http://www.rootsweb.com/~njessex/ Virtual Newark, NJ: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~geishome/ Essex Co Resources: http://resources.rootsweb.com/USA/NJ/Essex Rita
Don Did you get the material I sent? I found a sheet from the ledgers that I didn't send and I'm wondering if it was a duplicate where I had to copy it a couple of times. It's the far left section of the page that has the names on it. It might be a good idea for you to send a letter to all cemeteries within a 25 mile radius. You can find lists of them on many genealogy Webster. Please keep in mind, the time frame your ancestor lived and what transportation was involved. Elizabeth V. Cardinal EVC1369@comcast.net evcardinal@yahoo.com www.geocities.com/evcardinal/

Hi: My Irish Catholic Ancestors lived in Harrison, NJ. Harrison is very close to NYC. They are buried in: Holy Sepulchre Cemetery 125 Central Avenue East Orange, New Jersey 07018 201-678-3757 I wrote to Holy Sepulchre and for a $10.00 fee, they sent me information on both my Gr. Grandmother and Gr. Grandfather. I found the people who work there to be pleasant and easy to work with. Don; Try St Raymonds in the Bronx. It was a big cemetery Jim McCarthy
Don, Let me have the name of the deceased. I will put it on my Look-up sheet. I don't know ( 1 ) if there are records of deaths/burials for the year 1851 for New York City or ( 2) if my local FHC has microfilms for those dates [should there be records available]. However, I will try.
