    3. Erin, First thing you should do is go to the www.waterfordcoco.ie go to the County library page where you will find griffiths valuations and the death register, it is worth while checking those out, there are other things of interest there also.Waterford Heritage Centre holds all church records for waterford so you could use them. They predate 1864. happy hunting, Eddie.in Dungarvan....a few miles from Lismore. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Erin Schuck" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, March 21, 2005 8:09 PM Subject: [IRISH-NYC] Irish records > > Hello everyone, > > I have a research question about Irish records and I need your help. 1. Emigrant Savings Records explained
    2. The NYG&B did an article on the Emigrant Savings Bank Records. You can find it at this link: http://www.newyorkfamilyhistory.org/modules.php?name=Sections&op=viewarticle& artid=70 >>>by Suzanne McVetty, C.G. Originally published in The NYG&B Newsletter, Winter 1998 Ann (Dillon) (Jennings) Prendergast was born in County Galway, Ireland, and resided with her family in Mount Mary in Galway. Sometime before 1852, Ann's parents, Robert Dillon and Ann Kelly, passed away, leaving four children. Ann's brother John remained in Ireland as did her sister Elizabeth, while her sister Jane lived in New York. It is very possible that Jane, following the Irish pattern of chain migration, helped her sister Ann by sending funds to pay her passage to America. Chain migration refers to the Irish custom of sending funds back to Ireland to pay the passage for the next to come over.>>>>

    3. Erin, My question to you is do you have a marriage certificate for your gggrandparents? If not...I do not know if you are familiar with the http://italiangen.org site, they have a Groom listing for New York City. I checked it for your gggrandfather and did not find him I did find 2 Mary Nolan's. I can give that information if you like or check it out for yourself. 2. Eileen, I found two Robert Rooney's listed in the test books. 1. ROBERT ROONEY (account # 50049) Transaction date Nov 6, 1865. He is living at what appears to be 243--could be 273 Greenwich (at least it looks like that) He is single, working as a porter. He was born in County Down Ireland est year is 1842. He arrived here in June of 1859 per "Glasgow"Spelling is difficult to read. 2. ROBT. Rooney (account #57155) Transaction date is Jan 21, 1867. He is a porter living at what looks like the Sweeny Hotel. (I can't quite make it out). He is from County Leitrim est. year is 1848. He arrived here in1864 per "Louisiana" His father's name is Robert. There was another reference to this account in the Ledger book, when I check it said it was closed on Jan 19, 1867. There were several other Robert Rooney's but no data other than name and account number was given. Hope this is of help Diane
