    2. Lucy, Hmmm...that's a thought. But she did have to sign it so why wouldn't he have waited until he saw her? It was filed in the Bronx. I'll have to look at it again to see who may have filled it out. Just thinking out loud. Thanks. 1. marriage certificates
    2. Hi listers, Just want to make a comment on my experience with finding my parents' marriage certificate. My parents were married Feb 11, 1942 at St. Paul the Apostle Church around 59th Street in Manhattan. I always knew that so when I tried to get a copy of the marriage certificate I was surprised when I got back a "no certificate was found". I knew my mother was living in Manhattan at the time of the marriage so what was the issue? I suggested that a search should be done in the Bronx since that's were they lived after the marriage. Imagine my surprise when I received the certificate that my mother had as her address was the first apartment she and my father had in the Bronx. When I was getting married in the Bronx in 1974, my future husband and I applied for our marriage license in Mount Vernon, NY even though I lived in the Bronx. I had put down my Bronx address. It's a state license so my address shouldn't have mattered and it didn't. My question is, in the early 1940s did you have to live in the boro where you applied for the marriage license? I'm just trying to understand why my mother put the Bronx address on the marriage application and not her Manhattan address. Nora Hopkins FitzGerald

    2. Jo: Have you checked http://www.italiangen.org/. And no, it is not only Italians. On the left, go to Databases and at the bottom is the NY Grooms list. At the bottom of the next page is the search. I found 6 Michaels and 6 Michael J. If you know the approximate date, it should be easy. I found my grandparents here. The only thing is this might be the date of registration or something, because it had their date as 10/29/1921, and we always celebrated their anniversary as 10/31. The directions to order to order a copy are right there and I think I got my copy in just a few weeks. Good Luck; AnneMarie

    1. Fwd: Transfiguration Church
    2. Message forwarded from [email protected] In 2002, we were looking for the marriage for our DONOHUE/LARNEY grandparents. We went to Old St. Patrick's first; Then to Transfiguration. There is a Catholic School there, and the population is predominantly Oriental (Chinese, I believe). They do have old records. We left our information request there, along with a donation. About 2 weeks after we got back to Florida, we received a reply: They had no record of the marriage. The church was established in 1837. Do you have the address and phone number? Hope this helps. 1. Fwd: Donohue marriage/family
    2. Message forwarded from [email protected] I am still searching for the marriage of my husband's grandparents, MICHAEL JAMES DONOHUE (b Manhattan 1866 or 1871; died 7 April 1927 in Manhattan). Wife was ELIZABETH "BESS" LARNEY (b 1864 or 1865 in Manhattan; died June 5, 1938) Michael James lived at 461 West 155th Street when he died. His father was HUGH DONOHUE and his mother was ROSE FITZPATRICK (both born in Ireland, but where?) I believe that Hugh had a sister who never married named MARIA DONOHUE. Most of Michael and Bess' children were baptized at the Old St. Patrick's Church; but there is no record of their marriage there. I sure would appreciate some help. Have had back surgery and can't travel to NYC yet. Jo Bennett

    2. Message forwarded from [email protected] To all, Just saw this a few days ago on another list I am on, since there has been a lot of talk lately I hope someone can use this. Good luck..... DEL Naturalization Records aft. 1906 USCIS (formerly INS) files, known as C-Files, include a duplicate copy of all naturalization records dated after September 26, 1906. All C-Files contain at least a copy of the Declaration of Intention to become a US Citizen (to 1952), Petition for Naturalization, and Certificate of Naturalization. Occasional files contain additional documents or correspondence. C-Files include all US naturalizations from all States and Territories, and from all courts (Federal, State, and local). INS maintains an index to the C-Files, and can retrieve individual records based on name, date of birth, and place of birth. C-Files from 1906 to 1956 have been microfilmed, and are available via Freedom of Information/Privacy Act request to INS Headquarters in Washington, DC Information about making a request is found here: http://uscis.gov/graphics/aboutus/foia/request.htm

    2. I am searching for Joe Smyth who was from Co. Monaghan. He was a newspaperman and lived in Brooklyn. I believe he died in 1945 or 1946. I am also looking for an Owen Smyth - he may have been known as Gene Smith who worked in Macy's Dept. Store. I believe that they were brothers. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Sharon

    2. Don: Do you find these people in any other census? What other information do you have? Have you tried writing to the Municipal Archives in NY for info? In order to make such a broad research on this family for you, you must include everything you have on this family so as not to duplicate efforts. Lucy
