A couple of their sons had unusual names, and I tried searching for each family member and every variation of Ferguson I could think of, including letting the search use Soundex. I was beginning to wonder if the whole family had moved to Canada just long enough to miss the census :-). Someone finally found them, in Busti, Chautauqua, New York, under FURGRESON, with Irving Laverne FERGUSON listed as "Irvins" and Ulyssys Sinclair (aka "Lizzie") FERGUSON listed at "Ulissus." I got a PDF of the census page, and it sure looks like "Ferguson" to me, so it seems the person who did the index goofed. In other cases, enumerators spell things odd. Either way, "creative" spelling is a must for genealogy researchers :-). 2. Having worked in the office of my parish cemetery, I can tell you that this is quite common. Usually the first burial is dug deep enough to accommodate 3 burials. If a wooden coffin & a wooden outer box is used, then other burials can be done in the same grave after approximately 25 yrs. The reason is the coffins will sink further into the ground & will also deteriorate. Peg

    3. I'm looking for bits of info on one of my husband's great-aunts, Emily Florence Flanagan, b. 30 Jul 1901, d.1972 in Springfield, Massachusetts. She was later Sr. Mary of the Resurrection, Good Shepherd Order. Novitiate, Peekskill, NY, studied at the Haywood Institute of Music in NYC, and may have worked with the choir at Sacred Heart in the Bronx. I have a note from St. Monica's that her godparents were Thomas Flanagan and Annie Lanchey. I tried searching for a Haywood Institute in NY, and the only thing I found was a reference to the "Haywood Institute of Universal Song." This was in a listing on abebooks.com for "Universal Song Volume One" by Frederick H. Haywood. The cached page I found first gave the publication date as 1923, but a current listings say 1916 and 1917. http://dogbert.abebooks.com/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=517972691 http://dogbert.abebooks.com/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=94031879 I found no other references to the Institute. Haywood apparently went on to Eastman School of Music at Rochester. http://www.rochester.edu/Eastman/sibley/specialc/esmhistory.php Does anyone know anything about this Haywood Institute? Thanks! 3. Great News! I got some info on my Isabelle Creen O'Donnell. It cost about $25.00 for those interested. She was buried Holy Cross (1-718-284-4520) . She is in the Saint Ann section, Row H, grave number 34, no marker, under the Patrick Cadigam family grave, for a total of five people buried in this grave site. Holy Cross records indicate that while Isabelle was born on Oct 5, 1905, she died on Oct 4, 1938. Holy Cross said the gravesite had been in arrears since 1941 and there is no marker. Question- is this common to have grave upon grave? I told my Aunt about this and she had no idea where her Mother was buried and was shocked I found out. She was thrilled! Also, her husband listed her birthdate as October 12, 1906 and her father as Joseph Creen (His name is Ruffus Creen) on her death certificate. He had her name as Isabell M. On previous census sent to me by Wendy (THANK YOU!) she is listed as Isabell J. If it wasn't for so much of your (rootswebbers!) help and encouragement I would never have found this out! Someone, I can't remember who, I am sorry asked where I lived before moving here- Northeast NE, a town of about 5000, a small college town. After my Dad retired from the Air Force he taught college. For you New Yorkers and big city folks -- FYI -- It takes approx. 7 hours to drive from one end of South Dakota (E-W) to the other and there are less than 2 million people! I live in Lawrence County and there are about 15,000 people or less! Lots of land, lots of deer, lots of elk, a few mountain lions, and even people. Thank you! He is a widow with three children. On another Brooklyn census there is a James about the same age, widowed, listed as a boarder? I know it takes time to do hand written census. 3. O'Donnell Clan Gathering Summer 2005 Red Hugh O’Donnell, 19th Lord of Tyrconnel died on the 5th July 1505 in Donegal Castle at the age of 78 and 44th year of his reign. This was the man who in 1474 had the castle and Abbey built in Donegal Town and to a great extent was responsible for establishing the town of Donegal. We, the O’Donnell Clan Association, intend commemorating this event with a Clan Gathering in Donegal Town commencing on the 2nd of July 2005. The itinerary has not yet been finalised by our committee but it’s quite likely to follow the pattern of previous Clan Gatherings. · Opening (about 7.30 pm) in the castle or hotel with finger food, harps, pipes, flag raising ceremony (in the Diamond), speeches, a talk on some aspect of O’Donnell history, some music, display of O’Donnell photos and genealogical charts, finishing about midnight with 'O’Donnell Abu' and our 'National Anthem.' · Tour of the county, visiting places with O’Donnell connections – Conwal Graveyard, Lifford Centre, Gartan, Doon Rock, Kilmacrennan Abbey, Rathmullan and returning to Donegal Town by nightfall. · Tour the west – Glencolmcille, Rosses – dinner in Danny Minnie’s with some local artists performing. Returning to Donegal by bedtime. · Visit castle and abbey. Trip on waterbus. Meet in hotel for ‘Open Forum.’ Banquet. The Donegal Community Chamber are planning further events along these lines– walk to Belshade or around the town concert with Irish flavour (we had a great one in 1980) pageant (1956 I think was the last) or play with O’Donnell theme unveiling a memorial to Red Hugh traditional Irish music in pubs talk on genealogy, irish dress through the ages or some other aspect of irish history Here are some contact facilities – Vincent O’Donnell, Secretary O’Donnell Clan Association, Inver, Co.
