Surnames came into use in the 13th century and are as we all know linked to specific areas. It is the result of the examination and distribution of 25000 surnames on the UK electoral register and compared to the UK 1881 census. It would appear that their was less movement of people between the two periods. The message appears to be if you locate areas of a surname it is best to search those areas for family roots when matters get desperate. Ciaran Colgan chggf@btinternet.com
