Thanks for your reply, Mary. I was not aware of the defaulters' list. Unfortunately according to Pat, the defaulters' list from County Mayo did not survive. My ancestors were not on the Applotment list (that doesn't surprise me). The Tithe Witholders (Defaulters) only lists the people who didn't pay the Tithes. The Applotments lists all the people whom the Tithes were levelled on, included in the Applotment lists are townslands, acerage, and Landlord. What I was really trying to say was that if you didn't find your ancestor on the Defaulters list, it might have been because he paid the Tithes.
