Annie Moore, a 15 yr old County Cork young lady, was the first person to enter Ellis Island as an emigrant when it opened in 1892. There are memorials to her both at Ellis Island and at Cobh, County Cork. Recently there was a discussion about her on the Ireland mailing list and Janet Sandberg (many thanks) sent me some pictures from her recent trip to Ireland.
