    3. Hello, I am new to the list and was hoping someone may be able to help me. Some of my ancestors came to Ellis Island by way of Liverpool and originally Ireland. I found them on ancestry.com and ordered the records from the National Archives hoping it would give me more info, spicifically what county in Ireland they came from. It only gave me the info I already had. I was wondering if anyone knows if they would have been naturilized when they arrived in New York and if so where I can find those records. They arrived in Jan. 1850 on the ship David Cannon. The surname was Bennett and there were 7 members of the family. I know that one of them was in York county in 1851 but not sure about the rest. Hoping someone can help. Roberta

    3. Hi Roberta,   I have BENNETTS who lived near my DALYs in Ohio, and appear in some of our church records.  If you find a Lorain County connection, i.e. Pittsfield, Grafton, LaGrange, Carlise, Elyria, etc., let me know.  I did not research our connection with this line, so I can't tell you much.  My DALYs were here in the 1830's.   Best Regards, Trish  If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to see it, do the other trees make fun of it? --- On Sun, 4/4/10, Roberta Kavalchuk <kaval@tbaytel.net> wrote: From: Roberta Kavalchuk <kaval@tbaytel.net> Subject: [IRISH-AMER] Bennett genealogy To: IRISH-AMERICAN@rootsweb.com Date: Sunday, April 4, 2010, 10:58 AM Hello, I am new to the list and was hoping someone may be able to help me. 3. If they landed in NY in 1850, they didn't come in through Ellis Island which didn't open till 1892. Castle Garden is probably the facility they came through and they have a website at: http://www.castlegarden.org/ The naturalization process depended on what year they applied. One did not become a citizen until they were in the country for a number of years so when they landed in NY, they were aliens. Here's a good site that explains the process: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nynewyo2/naturalization/ Hello, I am new to the list and was hoping someone may be able to help me. > Some of my ancestors came to Ellis Island by way of Liverpool and originally > Ireland.
