    3. It is sad to say that Rootsweb is closing it's doors on March 2nd. Since I have heard that many will miss our lists and want to continue it elsewhere, I have set up a new lists over at groups.io If you would like to be part of the list, please go to: https://groups.io/g/Irl-Ulster/ https://groups.io/g/Irish-American/ https://groups.io/g/Nir-Armagh/ Sign up to be a member of the list and then the list will work much like the Rootsweb lists.  If you have any questions, feel free to email at this email address. -- Pat Connors http://www.connorsgenealogy.com

    1. [IRISH-AMER] Mailing lists on RootsWeb will be disabled in March 2020
    2. Aaron Hill
    3. I am not happy about this. I received the following message this morning. Please protest this short-sighted move, if you want. Perhaps if they hear from enough us, Ancestry will reverse course. Aaron J. Hill aaronjhill.wordpress.com From RootsWeb Administration <rwmailinglists@ancestry.com> Tue 1/7/2020 9:36 AM Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state. Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb. As an alternative to RootsWeb Mailing Lists, Ancestry message boards are a great option to network with others in the genealogy community. Message boards are available for free with an Ancestry registered account. Thank you for being part of the RootsWeb family and contributing to this community. Sincerely, The RootsWeb team

    1. [IRISH-AMER] [EXTERNAL] New records online and free to access
    2. Pat Connors
    3. Thanks to Genealogy In time online Magazine for this list of genealogy records online and free to access: *Ireland* – FamilySearch has added another 900,000 records to their Ireland 1901 census record collection. This is a very important collection for anyone with Irish ancestors since it is only one of two full censuses for Ireland that has survived. A typical record in this collection lists the name, age, occupation, relationship to the head of the household, marital status, education/literacy, religion and birth country for all the members of the household. This collection can be searched by first name and last name. Access is free. [Ireland 1901 Census Records] https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/1626180 *Ireland* – The Irish Genealogical Research Society has added 14,000 more names to their early Irish birth, marriage and death indexes. This brings the total name count for the three indexes to 274,000. The marriage index is free to search. You can read more about this latest update at Irish Ancestors. https://www.irishancestors.ie/weve-added-14000-more-names-to-our-bmd-database/ *Ireland* – FamilySearch has increased their collection of Irish civil registration records by an additional one million records. These are primarily birth (1864 to 1913), marriage (1845 to 1870) and death (1864 to 1870) records issued by the Irish government. A typical birth record in this collection lists the name of the child, date and place of birth, full name and address of the father, profession of the father and full name (including maiden name) and address of the mother. A typical marriage record in this collection includes the full names of the bride and groom, their ages, date and place of marriage, occupations of the both the bride and groom, their signatures and witnesses to the marriage (who were often close relatives). A typical death record in this collection includes the full name of the deceased, date and place of death, sex, age, marital status, occupation and certified cause of death (if known). These records can be searched by first name and last name. Sadly, most of the records in this collection do not show images of the original record. Access is free. 1. [IRISH-AMER] A gentle reminder
    2. Pat Connors
    3. This is a reminder.  This list has not had any activity in quite awhile. It could mean, we all have filled in our Family Trees, or it could mean, we have found other ways to help us, or maybe we are just not interested in genealogy anymore. However, there are probably many members of these lists that maybe just gave up looking.  So, what I am suggesting is to those who already have filled their trees up, maybe sending an post about /how /you filled up your trees would help others find the help they needed to unlock some of their genealogical mysteries. And to those who are stuck and need help, send some questions, tell us how you are stuck and maybe, just maybe, so good soul will have answers to you questions and enable you to unlock those family tree mysteries. -- Pat Connors, list owner http://www.connorsgenealogy.com

    1. [IRISH-AMER] Read any good books lately?
    2. Pat Connors
    3. I have been buried in a number of Topographical Dictionary books, Lewis's Gazetteers, written by Samuel Lewis.  Many years ago, I got into the Ireland version and at the time, I was admin of the County Tipperary website on Ireland Genweb: http://www.irelandgenweb.com/irltip/ Every time I added a new county or townland, I included what Lewis had written about that area.  Now I am working on his book on Cornwall, a county in England. I have decided to add them also to the areas I have showcased on my website, counties in Ireland, England and soon will be adding Scotland.  All places where my ancestors were born and/or lived.  They were all written in the mid 1800s and I find them extremely interesting. -- Pat Connors http://www.connorsgenealogy.com
