SNIPPET: The Ulster Museum in Belfast is undergoing major refurbishment work and will be closed until 2009, thus presenting an ideal opportunity for the National Gallery of Ireland in Dublin to host an exhibition focusing on sixty paintings from the Ulster Museum's rich Irish collection. Major figures of the 18th and 19th century are included, among them George BARRET, Nathaniel HONE and William ASHFORD, as well as lesser well-known painters like Joseph PEACOCK and James Glen WILSON. Highlights of the show include paintings by some of Ireland's most distinguished 20th-century artists: John LAVERY's 'Under the Cherry Tree' (1884), Paul HENRY's 'Dawn, Killary Harbour' (c.1921), and Jack B. YEATS' 'Riverside Long Ago' (1923). Also featured are a number of Ulster painters, represented by William CONOR, John LUKE, Charles LAMB and Frank McKELVEY. The selection concludes with works by more recent Irish artists such as Basil BLACKSHAW, Camille SOUTER and T. P. FLANAGAN. This exhibition is a wonderful opportunity for visitors to see works from the Ulster Museum, many of which have not previously been shown in Dublin's National Gallery. An illustrated book will accompany the exhibition, which will run until 16th September 2007 and admission is free of charge. For further info: www.nationalgallery.ie
