I have his marriage certificate giving his parents as JAMES HANNAH & ANN LAUGHRY and his birth as DOWN. I then have his Death Certificate giving his birth as DERRY. He would have been born c1840 and married & died in Ballarat Vic. I have full info on his children etc. just have not been able to find how & when he entered the country and confirm his parents details. An elderly lady (his grandaughter) recalls her father - his son - telling her he was born in NEWTON LIMVARDY LONDONDERRY and that he and his brothers went from Ireland to California for the Gold Rush, later leaving and coming to New Zealand then Australia, again looking for Gold. She said he was the only one to remain in Australia but kept in contact with a brother in New Zealand. I have now found there was a Robert Hannah -a goldminer in New Zealand and also a William Hannah that owned a Hotel during the Gold Rush days. I am trying to attach some one in New Zealand or California to my troublesome James. I have tried the IGI and can find no listing for this family in either Derry or Down and nothing for the parents names. Have also listed on message boards and mailing lists - nothing!
