Hello: My great great grandfather immigrated from Ireland in 1848-1849. I have recently found out that he immigrated from what I think would now be the Belfast Area. My question is: I am looking for records of his parents, where he was born and exactly when he came across the pond. I know in England they have records going back to the beginning of time (well almost) and I am wondering if the same applies for Ireland. His name was William Hollis born 12-22-1829. His father's name was Mathew (according to the death certificate of William Hollis). William appears in the 1860 census in Lewistown, Mifflin County, PA. He died in 1907. I know of no other Hollis's' that he was related to in the USA. All of the relatives that might have information are now deceased. Does anyone have any suggestions? I look at the Hollis rootsweb list, but that is not any help. Thanks, ginger in Florida
