If you are checking your family names as possibly living in England by 1901-don't forget to check the 1881and 1891 Brit. census for family then, too! By going to the Family History Center ( run by the Latter Day Saints). I not only found that my family lived in Middlesex ( Harlington & W. Drayton) in 1881, but was able to check for 1871, 1861 and 1851. The following is basically for "newbies" to genealogy. The 1881 census is indexed and threfore many people easily found IF they are there at that time. But remember that ages are not always true. Each census and bit of information for my Gfather has him as born in different years brom 1863 thru 1867, depending on what I have as info for him. He is listed as being 18 yrs. old on several things in different years, ( either he didn't age-he lied-or census counter couldn't subtract). Check as much of census as you can for all the family names especailly "common" names, Maloney/Mahoney ( oftern taken for each other) O'Brien etc. And don't worry/fuss about the spelling I found family of Herricks listed as Horrocks. And after many years had finally found the right ones-before that I was insistent about the spelling. I was lucky that there was a son with an odd name, and that's was how they were found. After 40 years ( I've been at it) you still can learn more tricks. Good luck to all of you!
